Why didn't Mitch have to serve any time for the hit and run? When Jimmy stops by his house at the end, Jimmy's injuries are still fresh and the baby is still very young so I don't think much time had passed. Maybe he's out on bail or something but he sure didn't seem concerned about any charges or anything.
shareJust guessing here, but it's probably because Mitch worked out a plea agreement with the courts and the DA office to avoid jail time. He might have had consequences other than incarceration, though the movie didn't even hint at what those might be.
There are many cases in real life where certain offenders are offered plea bargains, and they have a relatively minor consequence as a result.
