Why is school still in session during an Alien Invasion?

If I saw this before the covid outbreak, I probably wouldn't have batted an eye.

After about 30 minutes I couldn't stop thinking about the idea before I had to shut it off.

That's probably because their president threatens to cut off education funding if schools don't reopen.
