The film introduces us to a global power cut, following that the military has running cars, the functional base and the kids have speakers.
Either that is massive plothole or thats a lazy hint to what the film is about.
Ps: Howcome you can have industry standard vfx on some scenes, then have really terrible alien skull vfx on others.

It should have been addressed. Though it wouldn't have made much difference, this movie sucked.
The Military has 'Harden' equipment.
Meaning it is built to withstand an EMP Pulse.
Also, what was NOT shown in this movie was that older vehicles would not be affected by a EMP Pulse.
Only newer vehicles with 'Chip Tech' installed would be...
It was obvious the Others had taken over the bodies of the military and that's why they had power. Came in separated the kids & adults. That's why the story was so bad at that point.You had to be blind not to see what was going to go down with the parents!

Having not read the books and not knowing anything about it I honestly though the aliens didn't take over any bodies but some were placed here in advance as Sleeper agents.

Were you not paying attention? The military was controled by the aliens. Also allot of military equipment is made to withstand an EMP strike.
shareAs long as you have a Faraday cage you can shield against EMP, it's not too far fetched to assume the US military has underground bunkers with a Faraday cage embedded in the concrete for such an attack with vehicles in them.
