On a par with Hunger Games II,III , Divergent & Maze Runner

Ranking all these might be a chore, but possibly The 5th wave might even be last on this list.

- looked and felt like a TV show (we really are spoilt these days!)
- Woodenest acting
- Lowest budget (blatant guess that claim BTW)
- The 2nd wave was actually a wave

+ Simpler plot (less confusion - nobody still really knows what is going on with Maze Runner)
+ Hit Girl
+ Ended on a nice positive note, of hope that we can win and that there can be a sequel.

+ The film had a certain "je ne sais quoi", something about it that I liked. Maybe a slight gentleness about it. Like in The Walking Dead where the just well, walk, through nice forests and stuff. I would definitely binge watch the series, and given 6 seasons of it, it might just amount to something!

The sequel will be the game changer.

Maze Runner is definitely the worse, IMO. The ending was just this huge WTF moment.

BUT if you count the 2nd Divergent movie which apparently made no sense because they rewrote the plot, then that Insurgent? is the worse.

At least Hunger Games made sense and followed the novels fairly well. The directing in the second one was very well done and the set was stunning. I can't hate on them much.

I liked the 5th Wave besides the odd love triangle part. The alien falling in love based on just first sight is so stupid. All of who he is is gone because he thinks she looks so... innocent? beautiful? kind? seriously, love at first sight is not real. it's cheesy, and trying to force an uncomfortable vibe with the HS crush was just a time waster with no climax. He didn't even notice the alien admitted he was an alien. It's like 20-30 minutes setting up this love triangle which wasn't even a love triangle.
Otherwise, the child soldier bit was compelling albeit obviously a trick. And the waves were pretty upsetting and emotional. The characters beyond the love interests worked.

I finally watched Battle Royale and I thought it was horrible. It may have come first but the acting was terrible and it was beyond boring.

It was also made with the fraction of the cost of the big Hollywood production of Hunger Games with its big CGI magnificence....anyway I was referring to the book Battle Royale was based on...
