Is it dumb fun....YEAH! Is it supposed to be high art....F'K NO!!!

We don't get many hard hitting action movies like this anymore. Bad guys who mean serious business, the lone hero determined to win the day, people get killed, stuff blows up, and you get to see Ashley Judd die.

What kind of red-blooded all American doesn't like seeing this kind of movie? Of course its not realistic, find an action movie that is. The whole point of a movie like this is to escape FROM reality, to shut your brain off for a couple of hours and have some fun.

And yeah its pretty much Die Hard meets Air Force One but who cares its all about the excitement, seeing whats going to happen next. The only downside I had was that it was a little too obvious who the traitor was in the movie (I mean come on isn't he always a bad guy). Overall I give the movie a solid 10 out of 10. It's exactly what an action movie should be, it gives you the jumps, the thrills, a hero to root for and a villain you love to hate. If you think a movie like this isn't for you I suggest you watch a Twilight movie, it doesn't have Gerard Butler killing terrorists....but it does have a sissy that sparkles.

Omg! Thank you!!! It's MINDLESS FUN. The best action movie since Die Hard. 1- because IT IS Die Hard (@ the white house). 2- because you get totally lost in it while knowing (and not caring!!!) that it's a completely illogical sequence of events. IT's A MOVIE, PEOPLE. :) kudos to you!

Yeah, right ....

I wasn't terribly happy with the choice of villains, but then again somebody has to fill in that role and at least they chose a terrorist cell within the North Korean government so I believe that kind of let the North Korean government off the hook. (Got a little lost toward the end so I'm not 100 percent sure I have that right.)

But, boy, was I impressed with the first half-hour or hour or so of this movie. Non-stop action, very well done, down to the terrorists dressing in an odd assortment of clothing like the ragtag group they were in a way. I know, I know, they were incredibly organized as I believe Banning said and I suppose the different outfits were because they were blending in when they first got into town, but I still liked how they looked kind of ad hoc. And Butler as the lone save-the-day-against-all-odds hero ... this shows why he has become a star. I don't think anyone could have done it better.

I love you.

I COMPLETELY AGREE! Stuff blowing up, a way-high body count, helicopters falling out of the sky, even a dog gets shot! Add GB peeing testosterone all over the place...I love this movie!

The problem is the movie doesn't set the tone of dumb fun. It sets the tone of dramatic thriller then proceeds to Michael Bay it.

Meh. Nobody's said it was supposed to "high art". Ever. You're dancing with a straw man, OP.

But the fact that it isn't "high art" doesn't excuse it from being as lame as this is. (And I hear its sequel is even worse.) Brain-dead action flicks that make very little logical sense (such as featuring subversive plots that hinge crucially on the target person doing something they're absolutely trained *not* to do, and have no fallback option if he doesn't do it) get boring and snortworthy very quickly.

A film can be dumb entertainment and still have the story make sense. They're not incompatible. And they don't have to be "high art" to do it.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

Agree!
I have watched action thriller Olympus Has Fallen (2013) and sports drama Southpaw (2015) this week. 🤗

After noticing London has Fallen has been released, I thought I should not delay watching Olympus Has Fallen.

Though predictable, it was like Die Hard - Commando action packed movie. Never thought such a pre-planned attack would work at the White House. The director must have liked Aaron's and Freeman's role in TDK.
