Was knocking off the Washington Monument a type of "emasculation"?

If we think of the Washington Monument as a phallic symbol, then doesn't lobbing off the top half symbolize an "emasculation" of America, like getting your ding-dong cut off?

lol. yes that is quite possible. However a little later in the movie we see the obelisk intact and erect (bad movie mistake). Apparently a real man never looses his erection ;-)

The obelisk did not fall completely down. Only the top 1/5. This was not an emasculation, to use the imagery presented, but a circumcision. Likewise later, we see the obelisk, what remained.
