S3/E7 Nail Salon/Fun: The Funniest Episode In TV History?

One could make the argument.

Nathan's Chinese accent and the fat lady farting (and apologizing!) were the stuff of legend, not to mention Nathan commanding the lady to return home due to her overactive bowels.

The farting was funny. He got away with doing an offensive Chinese accent. The man is a genius. This was the 3rd episode I saw.I loved the one with the smoking bar.He is hilarious!!!

That's just my two cents.

I loved how he hemmed and hawed about not wanting to seem racist, then he did a really racist Asian accent.

"No, I am fun, and it's been scientifically proven."

Branden was really up for anything. And secretly collecting his urine for testing wasn't even a dealbreaker.

reply

It was all in the setup. Had he just came out with the accent directly, it would have only been about a tenth as funny. But he did that wonderful little awkward reluctant dance that set up the gag flawlessly.

reply

Yeah, that Asian accent was possibly the funniest scene in the series. I thought he was beating around the bush too much setting it up then when I heard it and started dying laughing

reply

He is truly brilliant. I wonder if he knows from the beginning how far it's going to go. Like when he set up the valet did he already know that he would twist people's reticence into a racial thing about asian drivers? Or did he see their reticence and then get the idea?

If I saw someone valet driving my car like that and burning out my tires, I would be super pissed lol! I wonder if those people got paid.

reply

Yeah, I have the same question! I wonder how much is prepared beforehand and how much Nathan improvises, adapts, and overcomes.

reply

On the last car the 'ringer' valet parked, she went over the curb, which could produce much more damage than just burnt out tires. If that were me, I'd be be calling a lawyer right away.

Unless they filmed her doing crazy stuff with a stunt car, and then cut in the reaction shots- and the reactions were to something far less crazy.

The whole thing was an obvious set up specifically to shock those about asian drivers. The nail salon was the best and most logical setting for it. What's the first place you think of where asian people work? That's right! A chinese take out. But there isn't a situation where people can see a chinese person execute some sweet moves in a car. So that's where valet comes in...at a nail salon.
