Why the homoerotic undertones

I get the joke that Hill and Tatum act like a couple and it can funny but I feel it went really overboard sometimes. with the 'blowjob' in the library (which i know is a reference to the first movie) and especially at the end where Hill explicitly tells Tatum that he has grabbed his dick (twice) and that it tickles
I'm not a homophobe at all it just was pretty weird sometimes.
I liked the Ice Cube joke

I guess it's just a reflection of the "bro" culture we have these days. Uber macho guys who are constantly saying "no homo" when they're constantly touching other men, getting naked and making crude references.

I got that joke, but felt it was just played for laughs and didn't mean anything. Actually, I got a homoerotic feeling more from Channing Tatum's character and the "bro" blonde guy than I did from Schmidt and him.
