I miss the Jim Henson era of Muppets

It's such a shame that he didn't get to that hospital earlier, or they would've saved his life. Don't get me wrong, they are doing a great job with the Muppets today but it just isn't the same. I was only 1 when Jim died so I don't remember any of his work when he was alive. There's just something about Kermit and the gang back then that is missing today.

Like the proverbial cheese, I stand alone. Even while seated.

I have tried to given post-Henson Muppets a chance over the years but time and again, there's something very obviously awkward and off. Sometimes the solution to keeping a franchise alive is to promote its best work. Not keep dragging the characters out for mediocre new projects.

I was just about 9 years old when Jim died.

I remember being sad that he died, I remember watching the special they had as a tribute for Jim with the muppets and Big Bird singing.

What bothers me is that he died of something that was completely curable, if only someone would have caught it in time, he would still be with us today.

I agree completely.

It really was the best wasn't it. The only movie I loved after his death was The Muppet Christmas Carol. Other than that, none of them even compare to what he did.

I'm with you all. I was an adult when he died. I grew up watching the Muppet Show. It was my favorite "kids" show of all time. I put the kids in quotes, because it really also was for adults. There are a lot of jokes in that show that adults got that kids wouldn't have. I loved the early Muppet Movies.

It just has not been the same since Henson died. I was always dismayed, too, when the Henson family sold out to Disney. I just knew that was going to be a mistake.

Thing is, when this movie was announced and promoted, and I saw the trailer, I thought, "Hey, SOMEONE realized that they need to go back to the Muppets' roots. This looks like it might be close to the original Muppet days!"

Well, I just caught this movie on Satellite the other day, and boy, was I disappointed. The premise of what made the Muppets great was there, but the execution just seemed to fall way flat. I mean, I laughed here and there, but overall, I was just underwhelmed. I also just wondered if it's because I'm an adult now, and viewing all of this through jaded eyes, remembering the "good old days," or again, being an adult, I see the Muppets differently now, and just don't find them as funny and charming as I used to, but I can watch reruns of the old Muppets Show, or any of the really old Muppet Movies, and still be entranced, and in stitches. So, no, it's not me being an adult and seeing things through jaded eyes. It's definitely something missing since Disney took over (I mean, even the very end of the end credits were Disneyesque [the fireworks showing the Muppet faces]. In the old days, they would have done what they did with end credits, having a Muppet or two pulling the ropes to bring the credits up, then something like what Professor Honeydew did, and then they would have LEFT IT ALONE and let the credits roll normally without fireworks or other "fancy" stuff. And that would have been cute and Hensonesque.

I'm just glad that The Dark Crystal was made prior to Henson's death, and Disney didn't get their hooks into it. Henson's vision was brilliant. I shudder to think what Disney would have done with it.
