Has everyone forgotten...

...that Kermit and Miss Piggy already got married at the end of The Muppets Take Manhattan?

Go take a step outside - see what's shaking in the real world.

reply

Kermit explained that in the muppets that they got married in a movie.

reply

I don't remember him saying that.

reply

They tried to back off of that in later years. Though I do recall Piggy referring to Kermit as "hubby" during the 30th anniversary special. To me, they've already been married for years.

reply

exactly...also, in the last movie, didn't Kermit and Piggy each have half of their wedding picture?

reply

Muppet continuity reboots in every movie. Although some movie make references to previous movies, they don't all take place in a rigidly consistent universe. The only requirement is that each movie be consistent within itself, but a carte blanche is given for all other matters. Note that in the first three movies (1979, 1981, 1984), certain characters meet each other "for the first time" repeatedly in each of those movies.

Kermit and Piggy have to be Common Law by now, right?

Is there common law laws in Muppet world?

You can call me 'Mayor Chapstick.'

reply

And as I said on another thread here (I started that one) that it would be better to keep the continuity because then it would be FUNNY!

reply

That's what I thought too and brought up here. However, remember in The Muppets they aren't together when the film starts.

This is like the third thread that mentions this.

Maybe there are even more like this who knows?

Anyway my take on it is during The Muppets Take Manhattan if I recall correctly the "Wedding" was a big closing number finale. Even though Piggy hired a "real" priest, or asks the priest if he's a real priest.

Also someone pointed out in one of those other threads that these last 2 movies were sort of a franchise reboot. Like the recent Star Trek movies.

Yeah, like nobody takes the time to see if someone started this discussion already. Lazy jerks. But the priest was a real priest in Manhattan if you check the credits. Anyway, I think they should've kept the continuity because it would be a lot funnier to do that. But they are too lazy.

To the best of my knowledge, puppets legally can't get married anywhere in The United State of America, but evidently it is perfectly legal for a puppet to perform an actual wedding... http://www.inquisitr.com/2127107/puppets-officiate-wedding-couple-is-legally-married/
