Am I a total sap?
I cried twice during this first episode, first when Juliette found her "angel" and again when Rayna found the old man singing that song.
So glad the show's back, hope it gets a bigger audience.

I remember Wayfaring Stranger from my youth. It is so mournful and touches a person somewhere inside, especially if that person is searching for something within himself.
shareI'll have to look up the lyrics.
shareWow, this song is OLD! They don't even know who originally wrote it. Check out all the people who've recorded it! My internet search brought up Ed Sheeren's name first so I'm guessing he's the latest to make it popular.

Then telling you I'm a 74 year old grandmother who grew up on the music of Hank Williams, Sr., The Carter Family, Hank Snow, Minnie Pearl, and many, many others and listening to the Grand Ole Opry on the radio before we had a TV on Saturday night wouldn't surprise you. I did listen to this music in my youth. Some of it was so beautiful and so different from the country music of today. Willie Nelson is still one of my favorites today...he has such a unique voice and is a prolific songwriter...same with Johnny Cash and the late, great Merle Haggard; their voices are/were unique and they have written some of the most beautiful songs that have ever been written. Today's country music doesn't have a unique sound to it to my ears, it sounds basically the same to me. But, the way they portray the music on the show, probably because they usually show it as part of their life, I do enjoy.
shareI do think it's a good show for bringing different kinds of (southern) people and music together.
sharePlease enjoy the best version of this great song.

Have you seen the documentary The Winding Stream about the Carter family?
shareNo, I haven't but wish I had. My mother lived in an orphanage when she was young near where the Carter family lived, and she used to play with the older Carter children...Mother Maybelle, etc. My mother talked frequently about the family. Do you know where it can be viewed?
shareI saw it on Hulu or Netflix. I think it was originally on PBS.
shareI thought that episode was great. Choked me up a few times too. Hoping for big things this season.
shareI became familar with the song from watching "Cold Mountain". Jack White recorded a version of it.
