Connie Britton has left this show

From what I understand, something happens to her character in the latest episode which is not good at all. That's all I'll say for now as I don't want to spoil anything being that the episode is currently airing at this time.

Also heard online that it was Connie's decision to leave. Moreover, her decision seemed to be politically motivated as well considering the fact that she was unhappy with how Nashville stands at a political level. Seems like a stuck up and stupid reason to me.

With that being said, I just can't see this show surviving much longer without Britton being that she's the frontrunner of this show. At this point, they might as well just end it at Season 5 and be done with it for good.

Yeah I can't see how they can do another season. Hopefully this will be the last. Rather have them end it instead of it being cancelled again and we get left with another cliffhanger.

reply

I have to agree with you. Hope to also not see another cliffhanger too but it appears that CMT has been pretty good with ending each episode without them so far. Seems like this season has been kind of up and down anyway so maybe it's best to just end it after Season 5. Definitely won't be the same show without Connie though.

Really unhappy to see that the character of "Teddy" is back next week: hoped we'd seen the last of him. He doesn't sing and didn't bring much too the show. I want to see how Deacon deals with his grief and his dying promise to take care of both girls, rather than a custody battle. Yuck. Also please remove the abusive British video director from the show; I hate that he's somehow seduced Scarlett.

reply

Didn't know that Teddy was even still relevant to be honest with you. The way I see it, if he's in jail, let him remain there until he serves out his sentence and moves on with his life. No need to drag him back into the fold...although since he was once married to Rayna, I suppose he does deserve to pay his respects. But still. Let's hope that he's not going to be a series regular again....because I simply can no longer stand him myself....and a big NO to a custody battle. We've seen enough of that along with the highly unnecessary Maddie "emancipation" story plot.

I also can't stand Damien (the British director) either. The fact that Scarlett flat out LIED to Gunnar ("I need to be alone" she says) only to stab him in the back by immediately sleeping with the very guy that verbally abused her in front of everyone (????) only tells me that Scarlett is incredibly cold, insecure and easy. It is also my personal view that the episode that first introduced Damien was likely the worst episode in the entire series. But now with Rayna gone, I think this latest episode has to be the worst ever. I just can't see how this show can go on without their lead character. Because of that, I now fear for this show's future and ultimately blame Connie for that.

As for Deacon and the girls, I can only hope at this point that he doesn't turn to the alcohol again. Here they had a nice and happy setup with Rayna, Deacon and the girls and now that's all shattered in a thousand pieces. What a way to ruin a good show.

I'm not happy about Teddy being back either. He's so irrelevant. How is he and Raynas sister gonna team up and try to fight Deacon for custody? Sure Deacon has had his issues but Teddy is/was in jail.

Good points all around!

I might have already mentioned this before, but I really fear for this show's future now. It's not looking good with Connie Britton out of the picture. Even though "Nashville" is currently drawing in huge numbers for CMT, it would be foolish for them to renew it without their lead star.

In fact, this almost reminds me of when ABC was considering killing off Stana Katic (Beckett) from "Castle." Fortunately they didn't...but to the dismay (and joy) of some, the show was ultimately cancelled. In my personal opinion, however, it would've been disastrous to see Nathan Fillion go it alone for one last season.

In any case, if I'm not mistaken, Katic left the show after having a salary dispute. ABC also gave a similar reason as to why Tamala Jones (Lanie Parish) was let go as well.

reply

Oh wow I can't believe this is how it ends for Connie's character. Only Julliete and Avery's plotline seem to be going strong. Scarlet and Will's plotline turned into a trainwreck. I don't see how this could last another season.

reply

Agreed. I'll give it to the end of this season and that's it. The way I see it, killing Connie's character off is like killing James Spader's character of Raymond "Red" Reddington off of "The Blacklist!" Not a good move at all. I think this show will pay dearly for that in the ratings now.
