So, what exactly was The Orchard?

So they meet the one guy on the road that's leaving the orchard, and he's all paranoid and stuff, and then later they finally meet up with the Annie chick that Mickey had been trying to talk to and she says "it's not what you think it is". But there's never any explanation?

The thing with The Orchard is this... It's whatever you want it to be. I am actually surprised by people's attention spans. The Orchard itself is probably only mentioned in about 15% of the movie. It's a red herring. You think maybe the movie is going to go beyond being about these two characters and it doesn't. I don't think there's a single image of The Orchard that could be shown to satisfy everyone. Maybe it's a bustling town of generators and gardens, or maybe it's 6 guys and a girl holed up in an "Orchard" gas station with one generator and a big tank of gas that they guard with a shoot on sight rule. Either way, the people there are ruthless and Annie is clearly afraid of what they'd do to the guys if they made it there.

It's only mentioned in about 15% of the movie, but it's one character's whole motivation, and then just after it gets mentioned the two main characters find themselves in an orchard.

I enjoyed the movie for what it was... Far better than most low budget zombie movies.

Personally I just don't think such a seemingly important element should be introduced and then never answered or addressed. You could have still had the Annie character without putting such stress on this mysterious "orchard".

I do think it's really cool that as a film maker you come here to answer the questions of fans and viewers.

I would love to see a follow up to this.

I thought the same but you could say another purpose of it was to kill of any hope Mickey might have had of escaping Ben! They were stuck with each other and i think the movie was about the journey of Mickey mostly. I mean he manned up a bit by finally killing the zombie when Ben forced him to. By the end when he comes back in the car you think he might have actually done something and gotten the keys.

I got the impression it was a cult compound.

Probably something along the lines of Terminus in Walking Dead.

For me, the details given in the movie were enough. I didn't have any desire to know any more, and I personally thought it was clear that was all we were going to get. I guess I focused more on the character's obsession itself rather than what he was actually obsessed with.
