Great movie with a couple of problems

I thought the movie was good. The scene with Mickey which I know you know what I mean, was ridiculous and totally unnecessary. Also the ending when Ben is sitting in the car for what felt like 15 minutes waiting for Mickey to return was also pointless and annoying, in fact, the entire boring inside a car scene, which was clearly done just to boost up the length of the movie, it was monotonous and tiresome. Otherwise, great movie with lots of plot holes and unexplained things.

I think most people are on the opposite spectrum, with both the Mickey scene and the third act being their favorite parts of the movie. It's interesting to see someone feel the opposite though.

The third act was definitely not tacked on though, that was always planned. The stark change was in us trying to make the rest of the movie wide and open to counterbalance the close quarters of the third act. I think originally the movie was going to be 50/50 in the car, thankfully we pulled back on that!

Thank you for your reply, did you help produce this movie? I would like to thank you for the wonderful soundtrack that complimented this movie and also broadened my music library. Can you please also tell me your RRP of the movie and give me a donation link so I can contribute towards it. I downloaded this movie and then could not find it in retail as I always download my movies first

I didn't have a problem with them in the car (before or up to Mickey made the run for the keys), I just had a problem with Ben not keeping his gun on Annie, much less Annie shooting Ben in the leg (as opposed to the Volvo tire or just a warning shot). I'm also surprised Ben didn't have Mickey get the keys, start the car and get the F out of there while keeping a bead on Annie the whole time.

Even so, Mickey should have bought it as soon as he got out. Having him come back into the car without bleeding all over the place... THEN turning around to show he was bit, thus putting Ben in a tight spot... I would have thought Mickey would have either kept on running so as to not infect his friend, or would have only showed back up if he actually had the keys.

I think the tension of Ben waiting for Mickey helped a LOT.
Now you realize how hopeless their situation really is, you root for Ben and somehow, you don't have to identify yourself with Mickey, because during the wait, you sort of reach the conclusion that he's dead.

So yeah. Works for me. Kudos for the guys who did this movie, you're an inspiration.

I probably liked the scenes in the car at the end of the movie best! Because, well, a living creature - human, bear, wolf - would just stop at some point and leave the car, realizing that they won't be getting in anytime soon. Zombies, though - all they know is that there's foooooood in there and they want it, so they just go on and on and on and never stop.

"The Battery" is definitely one of my favourite movies from this year's Fantasy Filmfest. I remember it and when you've watched 65 movies within 12 days, the ones you remember are usually the ones that stood out for either being better or worse than the average. This one definitely stood out in a good way. :)

You guys are nuts!

The 15 minutes scene in the car is the not only the best scene in the movie, but one the of the greatest scenes in horror movie history! Seriously, I WAS Ben waiting for Micky in that car, trying to be cool at first, then getting impatient, the getting nervous, afraid, then panic and freaking the *beep* out! Bloody genius that scene! You couldn't have cut that scene down to five minutes, it was all about the waiting, the waiting was unbearable!

reply

Whoa whoa, it was a good scene, but easy on the "one the of the greatest scenes in horror movie history!" overhype

reply

I honestly don't think it's over hype, and I've seen a lot, and I mean a lot of horror movies, my favorite genre.

I really wasn't bothered about either scene mentioned here. But I am puzzled as to why we had to watch both characters brush their teeth for what seemed like 5 minutes (although in reality was probably only 2). Seriously, there wasn't anything amusing about it. It wasn't funny. It wasn't character developing. It wasn't anything. Just needed to maybe see them brush for 10 seconds, then cut.
I loved the soundtrack and general atmosphere throughout though, and it was generally directed and acted very well. Good job I say.

1:17 from the time they put toothpaste on the brushes till they were done.

I didn't mind it. I didn't even flinch. Heck, I didn't even notice until I came on here and saw so many people making an issue of it so I had to go to the scene and count. In the end, I just shrugged and figured "what's the big deal?"

reply

That scene with mickey in the car and the female zombie was PRICELESS!!!!!
It made the movie for me. I could not stop laughing.
I thought the film was very well made...I just wish that everyone died at the end.

i too found the 10 minute sequence of ben alone in the car a bit too long, in fact i fast forwarded 1-2 minutes because i was afraid nothing would happen anymore for the remaining time ^^

mickey's alone time in the car on the other hand was priceless!

Your attention span needs some adjusting.

reply

The movie's idea of 'good writing' needs more adjusting...

reply

Did you notice that the entire sequence with Ben sitting in the car was a single take?

I did.

That was impressive. That was a long scene.

reply

It was the first take too.

reply

He nailed it.

Could really feel the conflict of a guy who's used to being in control of situations, forced to sit there in less than ideal conditions with no knowledge of whether his friend would come back.

reply

I was actually thinking about how many takes that took and reasoned that it must've been only one because of how frustrating multiple takes would've been...

reply

Just watch this movie last night on Amazon. I will give an A for effort and just a C for content. Low budget and more holes than a Swiss cheese. I really liked Ben he reminded me of some guys I grew up with. Loyal to a fault and always funny. Car scene was just too much and and the ending very vague. The Walking Dead it is not. Watch at your own risk. Just a movie made on the cheap with some good friends helping out.

reply

I thought of the third act in the car that Ben could've shown a bit more interest as to what the status of Mickey was...wouldn't a person naturally start looking out the window to see what was going on?

Other than that I really enjoyed the movie.

reply

I really enjoyed the third act. I really enjoyed the whole movie. I'm a huge fan of the zombie genre, but am fed up with the constant and mass-produced gimmicky dross on offer. Even George A Romero fell into that trap, unfortunately. This offering was like a breath of fresh air in my opinion. Films like this bury stuff like World War Z. And it was made on a budget of $6000 too! Kudos.
Hope to see more from this team.

Though it did go on for a while, the car scene showed how difficult it would be to be claustrophobically cooped up with zombies outside and once Mickey left, how every minute would seem like ten waiting to see if he makes it back. I don't understand, however how he didn't get eaten right away or had even a chance to look for the keys.
