I just finished watching this movie and i give it 9/10. It had an interesting story, great acting and a satisfying ending.
There were a lot of moving moments, the hardest for me was the one with his mother. She seemed so lonely with only her puzzle for company. To be honest, she reminded me of my Mum.
They had a really cool relationship. I didn't think so at first. But she was really feisty, and he appreciated that. I could see from her how he might have liked Vicky, although I'm glad he ended up with Zoe in the end.
The writing between them and the acting supporting the writing was just short of stunning by the time it has completely played out.
He had no intention of seeing her but needs to to help Rose.
The sister is believed by the mother to have left her - the mother - ignored at the daughter's door through actions or influence of the son in law.
She is not surprised but in fact content to face "the end" alone having seemingly come to grips with her flawed nature and her relationships with her children.
Watching her relationship with James evolve in the mere minutes together due to circumstances is believable and surprisingly heart-warming. Mind blowing dramatic progress there in its depth, believability and viewer reward.
The point where James chooses quite clearly and lovingly to lie to her about her daughter's fate is particularly poignant.
Ad to all this, the surprising and tender, subtle humor that passes between them and you can't help but wonder if it would have left those two people with a feeling of love based regret as to what might have been between them had they had slightly different pasts and experiences.
I feel very confident in stating that it was one of the most incredible bits of social interplay I have ever seen in a disaster movie in general and one to be particularly, professionally proud of for all involved regardless of genre.
