Agreed, it is no masterpiece but it follows common sense (and common sense is lacking from movies today). The characters are realistic for the most part (except those at the party, two are stereotypical) and it is hard to wonder ... "what would I do?" ... just to realize that you may do about the same thing.
It is one of those movies that is not trying to be politically correct. That's the problem with movies today. 70 to 80% of all movies try to be a one size fits all thing. They want to appeal to everyone at the same time. Comedy? Check. Sex jokes? Check. Action? Check. Shocking horror? Check.
This is different, like it is not afraid to take a risk.
From dark comedy (the crazy guy at the start) to disturbing implications (the young girl being kidnapped) and the father killing his family to the pill scene, it actually dared to be different.
And it worked. No happy ending, at best a lukewarm one, no major cliches to satisfy the 90 IQ part of the audience, no effort to make us hate or like the character.
I hope I'll see a movie similar to this again. When I've watched The Avengers, I've spent most of my time checking my phone, out of boredom. For this one, I've went over 60 minutes my sleep hour since I have to wake up really early. Strongly, strong recommend.
