Very similar plot arc to "Last Night" out of Canada.
We get the "hero" entering his last hours of existence intent on being self-serving to the end. In the course of things going distinctly in the opposite direction of his plans, he come to an unexpected level of redemption. his earthly salvation culminating in his final act at the very last seconds of life on earth as he knows it. Moving!
We have:
Interjection of a victim prompting spontaneous heroic action.
A friend with a "plan" for coping which ends up being unfulfilling.
Familial reconciliation which due to its unplanned circumstances is all the more sincere.
I truly enjoyed both movies on all the presented levels though found that the direct, clear explanation of the catastrophe in "These Final Hours" allowed the "event" and its attendant circumstances to be less of a distraction since one is not led to continually try to guess at the event or its causes.
Here in "These Final Hours", it's clearly presented that planet killing meteors/asteroids have impacted and the resulting ring of fire is steadily extinguishing life around the planet as it progresses towards Australia with the heroic radio DJ offering regular progress reports.
