Wow very moving (spoilers)

Wow what a great movie. I don't know about anyone else, but this felt so realistic I could feel myself get sucked in and it really felt like the world was ending - the explanation of the disaster, peoples' reactions, the bittersweet ending...

It kind of makes you think though, if the world would end tomorrow what would you do? It was very moving how James went back at the end of the movie to be with Zoe - the woman he loved (the mother of his child), and they got engulfed by the cataclysm in each others' arms.

I think most people would want to be with the person they love, but what about those of us who haven't experienced true love yet? I feel like the scariest thing would be having the world end/dying and being alone.

Just random thoughts ;)

I agree. I thought it was very poignant. Very well-done last scene, too.
If this should happen to us, I would want to spend those last hours with my family, my parents, husband, sister & brother...their kids, and our kids and grandkids. We would eat and laugh a lot, and drink and cry a little. That's the kind of family I have.
Even if you haven't had your one true love, that doesn't mean you are alone. I bet if you think about it just a little, you'll figure out where you should be at that time. *S*

It seems that writers like to depict the masses throwing off all moral compasses when destruction is at hand. Beating and/or killing others, raping young girls, women getting naked and partying. Is that really how all of you would like to take the news?

I'd hope that most of us would just want to contact our friends and family for final goodbyes and maybe quietly drink that special wine or bottle of old whiskey we had been saving, then go outside to get a good view of the final minutes.

How about the rest of you?

For me - totally.
But everyone's different.
No doubt the hedonists would start raising a ruckus.

The way of the world these days seems that many more would throw off their moral compass - unfortunately. I thought they were realistic episodes in the character's journey. And I do agree with the OP - very moving and well-done movie.

You did see a glimpse of that - his mom. And of course she's probably not the only who sat back, drink some wine, chill out with puzzle (or hobby of choice), then face the end. Of course the mom tried to contact her daughter but they were kind of dead.

The film isn't saying that everyone would act this way when the world ends. Everyone will handle it in their own way. Many will give up and suicide out. Others will spend the time praying to their God. Some will be in denial. A few already-depressed folks will actually welcome the coming cataclysm. Many will party, drink, get high, screw. Others will want to be alone with their thoughts. Many won't know what to do, and will wander aimlessly. Some will face it bravely while others run screaming in the streets. And, of course, some will embark on crime sprees. Society will completely break down.

We all believe we know how we'd handle the end of the world. But until it really happens, I don't think we really know.

I thought the film showed an interesting mix especially in the opening scene with the radio announcer, in the start you see the Crazed looking woman with "Jesus loves you" on her, the family having the prayer group out the front of the house, the partying teenagers, the dad and son with a jerry can running, a group standing over a possible dead body, then the nutter with the machete.

Other people to note was the person who hung himself from the streetlight, the cop who was struggling to murder suicide his family (that poor bugger).

From what I could tell it seems that most of the average people the family types either fled the cities, "checked out ahead of time" or hid home, while the desperate, the rowdy, the crazy were out in force on the streets.

Oh yeah the honourable mention to the drunk taxi owner who was taking a slash and signing what I think was the Richmond Tigers club song.

I went in with very low expectations. Came out feeling this was a very good movie that could have been great even. Way better than I expected, glad I watched it on netflix.

It was a great story. I'd spent my last few hours with my loved ones too. I had a tiny bit of hope that someone would survive but I know it was impossible.

I agree. A very poignant and haunting film.
