Andy's actress was abysmal!

Seriously, is that what passes for a performance these days? Who thought casting her was a good idea? She was good-looking in that typical model way, so I guess she filled the role physically, but her acting... wow, just wow.

I'm pretty sure Fincher said at one point that the main reason they cast her was because she was so hot it would make guys understand why Nick would cheat on Amy.

She was terrible. It is a shame because it would have been a great opportunity for someone who could actually act.

! Great boobs, but I couldn't take that Janice Muppet lookalike seriously. It was like a glamour model trying to act.
There are busty beauties who actually have acting ability and look more in line with the character's age ... oh well.

George Lucas talking about: 'Hey, give it to me, I'll fix it. I'll make 20 more of them'

It's because (at the time), she was a model, not an actress. She had such a small role, I don't see why Meryl Streep-level talent was required.

Hope changes everything.

I don't think anyone was expecting Meryl Streep level acting. But I don't think anyone expected worse than Hallmark movie acting for the role either.

^ This.

Fincher just sounds a little scummy. We didn't need someone SO hot to know why Nick would cheat on Amy. That's against the book. He's not THAT guy - a guy who can't turn down a great pair of ***. It was a sign that he was alienated from his wife, that his marriage was complicated (the money Amy had lent him, the move she'd made for him) and stressful, and Andy was younger, seemingly more easy going, etc. Like a "break" from being up against it in his marriage.

I think Ben Affleck was the best casting. He's not as handsome as the Nick in the book, but he's believable as that "type". In a way, it's funny - Nick's working class and looks like he came from money, Affleck came from money and looks working class, but they're still that jock, conventionally masculine, "Fun" sort of guy.

I felt Rosamund Pike embodied Amy's dispassionate, clinical chill and willpower, but in terms of looks, it seemed like Amy should be this irresistible angel looking woman, like a young Robin Wright. Someone you can't imagine is diabolical. With Pike, you can.

Exactly Andy was easy going because she was Nick's new cool girl. Once she started making demands and wanting to know when he was going to leave Amy, he begins to get annoyed with her too.

reply

Well, either way, she wasn't given a whole lot to work with. I didn't really think anything of her acting - didn't think it was great, didn't think it was bad. It was what I would expect from a model who was hired for a cameo in a hit-film.

Hope changes everything.
