I'm going to make a statement:
'Kung Fu Panda' trilogy is better than 'Shrek' quadrilogy.
shareI agree. But then again, half of the Shrek series is quite mediocre. Shrek is good and Shrek 2 is very good but Shrek 3 is piss poor while Shrek 4 is just marginally better than Shrek 3.
shareThat's only because Kung Fu Panda has the same writers for all three movies.... All the Shrek movies each had different writers.
shareAs a whole, I thought the KFP trilogy was amazing and beautiful. I actually like the latest installment best at this point, but that could just be because the characters were so fully articulated, had achieved growth, and had completed their journeys.
The first Shrek Movie was really cute and very enjoyable. I don't remember any of the others (I may have seen Shrek 2 and then lost interest) and I've heard a lot of people complain about them. They over did it.
I agree easily, I've always felt the Kung Fu Panda franchise was much better than the Shrek franchise. I'm also one of the few that just didn't find Shrek all that funny and I honestly don't think it's holding up well over time. Shrek 2 is the only decent film in the franchise and even that's not all that great. Po truly is the comedic chosen one for DreamWorks.
"Unless you're an alien, time traveler, or esper, your opinion doesn't matter."
I agree. 'Kung Fu Panda' films are consistently good and integrate whatever pop culture references they have in much better ways.
Obviously, this trilogy is aimed at younger audience than 'How to Train Your Dragon' series, but even then, it still knows how to do a Nickelodeon-style animated film much better than some of the DreamWorks film.
And thank goodness for this film because NOW we have an animated film that has a proper voice castings, soundtracks (honestly, Hans Zimmer is more creative with much lighter film), animation, and proper filmmaking after that horrendous 'Norm of the North' soured a lot of people's taste in animated films!
I love the Kung Fu Panda movies... haven't seen this one yet... but Shrek is good in its own right. Shrek 2 is the best one, the first Shrek broke some new ground for its time, the Third was ok... it has really grown on me. 3 has some cool moments. 4 took Shrek more into the depths of its fantasy style setting and was a little more for adults than kids. I loved 4 as it brought everything full circle, and actually opened my eyes and point of view with my 'new kids' at the time too. I actually took them with me... they were about 7 and 3 at the time, and it kind of scared them! Especially with the witches and their pumpkin bombs... and I remember watching it with the thought, "How ARE they going to end this?" when we were in the theater. 4 may not have the charm of 2, but I really liked what they did with it, other than the message.

It has been a million years since I have seen any of the Shrek movies. I remember liking them all, but maybe if I watched them all again my opinion will change. I loved the first KFP but I found the second to be pretty forgettable. I plan on seeing the third one sometime.
