SPOILERS.
She has a fling with that younger dude and in the end it never works out, those two main characters wasted their time and wasted each other's time, this is probably a realistic depiction of real life, but sometimes they don't need to make a movie out of it especially when the storyline goes absolutely nowhere.
You can't go home again or more specifically you can't escape real life by recapturing your youth.
You have to move forward.
The movie should’ve ended with her in jail getting her arse kicked for hooking up with a child.
shareShe wanted to go back to her hometown to recapture her carefree teen happiness while the teen dudes ironically wanted to escape the mundane town to experience real life. The moral is (1) you can't go home again and (2) adults and teens don't mix in a fraternizing environment. Also (3) don't be so hasty to escape your teens.
Beyond that, this is a realistic slice-of-life drama and way better than I thought it would be. It's like a mixture of "Lifeguard" (1976) with "Snow Angels" (2007).
