Guilty of being *beep* in the first degree

This movie is okay. I think it tries to explore too many different areas in the material, so it ends up a bit muddled. Is it a Leopold & Loeb story about kids who's fantasies escalate to violence? Is it a Rear Window tale of mystery and murder? A family melodrama about an abusive father and misplaced anger? Is it a tragedy, or is it a horror story? Ultimately, I think it's at least an invitation to consider that if you're being a total dick, you might just consider that there are possible consequences.

Some good points include a decent premise and of course James Caan. In the few scenes where he's given something real to do, he delivers in a way that reminds us why he's a star.
