The cop (spoilers)

I was going to use his testimony in the title but I realized that could be a spoiler too.

So why did they show the scene of the cop telling us there was a body that he found and about the tragedy? That really did spoil a major part of the ending. It doesn't make sense. Had they left that out then the tension at the end would have been ramped up to a fever pitch instead of us knowing in part what was going to happen. They took a lot of potential randomness out of the scene even though it still surprised

There was also an interesting message regarding the 4th amendment in this movie. Just because someone doesn't want you searching through their house does not make them a bad person or mean they are doing something wrong

If memory serves (not going to re-wind) the officer testified that when he entered the house that he encountered someone standing and holding a gun. In the actual scene, Ethan was no longer holding the gun....

At least that's what I noticed during the movie.

He didn't say who the body was and since none of the other main characters were in the shot it made you wonder which one of them died.

reply

Exactly. All I kept wondering the whole time is who died. [spoiler]Then when they showed Sean on the witness stand I knew it wasn't him. I was surprised at the ending and my suspicions on Grainy changed as each haunting brought back memories of his wife and then thought the boys were terrible trying to cover up their tracks instead of calling the police[spoiler] Police sure do respond quick in that neighbourhood.

Police sure do respond quick in that neighbourhood.

It's a wealthy area 

This is exactly what I was going to say... The cop saying that made you wonder who it was who died... You knew something bad was coming, you were just left guessing what exactly. I thought him revealing that there was a tragedy made the movie all the more exciting. This movie was so great.
