Are kids today really that dumb?

I had a hard time believing in the one kid's motivations, the one was a derelict out for revenge, but the other supposed smart one was even dumber. For one, the entire experiment is entirely illegal and can never be used publicly in any form, it certainly held no remotely scientific purpose. Secondly, there should have been a point where the smart kid should have felt some sort of empathy for the man(Cahn), or is this acceptable to do to other humans in today's millenial sheep herd, all just a bunch of inept, non thinking, morally bankrupt social network consumed husks?

I don't buy the "lonely kid taken under the wing of some "cooler" kid only going along with it so he could hang out with girls and drink beer". The kid was extremely happy to undertake this project, gleeful even.

Too bad Cahn didn't shoot the two little pricks in the end, would've totally been a worthwhile film whereas it was only barely entertaining.

reply

I feel the same way, how can the kids just go on about this and thinking that it's fine. they showed no signs of remorse at all and in the end the verdict was completely unfair. they should've gotten a more harsh punishment..... the purpose of that "experiment" was for revenge I guess because.... they erm... didn't like him. -_-

reply

No, kids today arent that stupid. The only stupid person is the director for making this piece of garbage.
It was like watching "The Rear Window" give birth to a deformed baby that needs to be put down.

Yes. Yes they are. Millennials are terrible and should be dealt with.

These kids were completely dumb. Like you said.. what were they going to do with the footage? They did 23 illegal things (give or take a few illegal things) and there's no way this would have been made and sold. I don't get why they thought that?

my favorite stupid part is when Caan offs himself (probably after realizing he is in such a terrible film) the stupid kid comes to wipe the blood up.. with some bounty paper towels...........

reply

Lmfao! And then, was he about to start trying to roll the body up in the rug? Before the cop barged in?

Why not just go for the cameras and leave? Why are you wiping up any blood with anything? He obviously shot himself. And they thought nobody heard a gunshot in that quiet ass neighborhood?

I did enjoy the film. Gave it a 6/10. But that whole bit was just dumb.

reply

The kids are too young to be millennials.

This movie pisses me off. The sad thing is, its a liberals dream. They want criminals to have all the freedom and if anyone dares to react , they are the evil ones. I hated these sicko children from the moment i turned this movie on. I wish someone would have stabbed and shot these dumb white mfers

reply

You are supposed to hate the kids. They are the villains of the film. Nobody is arguing otherwise.

reply

They really were dumb to just hangout in a crime scene like that when the police would be showing up any moment.

Also they bought spy gear with a credit card instead of using bitcoin and they knew it was illegal, should have used gloves and keep their prints off everything.

reply

Do you actually live in a bubble? Yes kods are really that f'd up and dumb. There's 7.1 billion people in the world, do you think none are like that?

Let's just give you a little insight how *beep* up kids are. The murder of Skyler Neese, she was killed by her two best friends because thry didn't want to be friends with her anymore. They called her out in the middle of the night, took a drive to a secluded area amd stabbed her multiple times. They even tweeted 1 2 3, that was pretty easy. Then they did a candlelight vigil and remained close to the victims father to gain information on the case.

Adam Lanza was told by his mother to go out and get a job amd make some friends and to stop playing too much games. This infuriated him and he ended up being known for the Shandy Hook Massacre.

In China, a boy set a kid on fire because he thought he was playimg WOW. He squirted fight fluid on the child and set the person on fire. Asked why he did it, he said he was a mage, which is his gaming character.

A teenager about an hour away from where I live in the state over, managed to convince her boyfriend to commit suicide. She texted him that he needs to stop chickening out and do it already. As he sat in a parking lot with his car, he attached a hose from the exhaust. In the middle of it, he got scared after nearly dying and texted her amd told her he was scared. She told him that if he doesn't do it now, then he's never going to do it and that he's all talk. So he did it and died.

Four teenagers kidnapped an old couple asking for directions at a gas station. They took them into the woods and executed them. Couple of these kids went to school with a friend of mine. The murder took place 3 blocks from my house. I only knew about it because I went to that area with a bunch of other people to smoke weed. As I was there a cop was waiting there, he asked us do you watch the news lately and told us about the execution and 1 week before that a girl was strangled to death and and raped after she was already dead.

As you can see, kids are brutal. They are pure evil thanks to today's standards. Kids have it easy so they don't understand moral values. Just look at Chicago's crime wave, most of the murders are by teenagers. The same amount of time, there's more homicides there than there are military personnels being killed in Afghanistan and Iraq combined. So to answer your question, yes kids are dumb.

The suicide girlfriend and Sandy Hook all happened about an hour away from my city in Massachusetts and Connecticut.

Don't get hurt kid. I'm not your daddy, I'll beat you senseless.

Nah it's not that I live in a bubble man, it was more or less a request for validation on what I already believe this millenial generation to consist of.

Makes you wonder who's to blame for their overall retardative state that so many of em seem to be in. Is it bad parenting from Gen-X? Nah doubt it, I think it has a sh!tload to do with the internet and social media, it's warping their minds and stopping them from developing the proper social and interpersonal skills that make people "human". I think they lack empathy severely and that has a ton to do with the violent disconnect that seems to be occurring more and more often.

I wasn't sure exactly what kind of responses I would get from the thread and was trying to not totally attack and go after an entire generation and lumping them all together, but from the responses people don't seem to mind at all, lol.

It's funny that no kids around that age have replied to anyone and talk some smack about grouping everyone in or even bother to try to defend themselves as a generation. Maybe it's viewed as a straight up lost cause.

reply

But surely you could compile a list like that for all age groups?

Kids really are that dumb. They always have been. The only reason we don't realize we were that dumb is because of the Dunning Kruger effect.

Cause and effect don't really form in the brain until around age 25. After that we're a bit more wise, or "street smart" (although IQ is generally a constant), but because conscious memory is linear, our self-perception projects our more mature awareness onto our childhood memories.

So, yeah. Dumb. Kids are dumb.

Movies are IQ tests; the IMDB boards are how people broadcast their score.

reply

I think (in terms of this film), 'sociopathic' is a better descriptor than 'dumb'. At least for Ethan.

Kids are dumb, but as another poster stated, these two were almost sociopathic. I think it's safe to say that most normal people- even teens- know better than to try to scare an old man for weeks on end, tormenting him even when it's clear he's losing it.

reply

Perhaps that some kids can be manipulated into doing stupid unconscionable things by their friends. I believe a lot of "jackass" accidents ("Here, hang on to the hood while we drive around town and I'll film") happen that way.

After heading to the family's house for Thanksgiving I've totally lost all hope for the future generations and society in general. Being an NFL fan I was all about watching the football games as its always been tradition, but when I sat down in the living room to watch with around 8-9 other people in the room it was so quiet you could hear a f'ing pin drop, every single one of them with phone in hand completely "interfaced" with it, just like mindless drones. I was like wtf??????!!!!!!???? Why even bother showing the hell up? The whole thing felt like a Black Mirror episode, society is at the beginning of the end. Sooo damn glad I grew up when I did, but even still at 38 a lot of people my age and older are just as bad as the millenials with things like social network/cell addiction, almost as bad.

I could go on, but it would all just end up a moot point, the damage is done, no going back, only forward down the technological rabbit hole.  Yay I could hardly contain my emotion 

Thrill_KillZ is right! Better that people watch other, healthy people do strenuous physical activity while themselves mindlessly sit in a chair after having stuffed themselves to the breaking point with unhealthy food than actually communicate with other people via technology! Kids these days and their "communication" - It's like like wtf??????!!!!!!????

Interesting try at sarcasm, but....

Watching a big game on Thanksgiving day is very long held tradition shared by tens of millions of families across the country. It used to be a great device to ease relations and inspire conversation amongst family members even if all the people present weren't necessarily NFL fans. I'm assuming you were a fetus or very young during the 90's so this is probably something among many others you were unaware of in the pre 2005 digital, cell, social network storm.

sit in a chair after having stuffed themselves to the breaking point with unhealthy food

Well this, I really have no idea what your point is here, is your family all severely obese people that cook nothing but high calorie fried everything loaded with saturated fat and have third and fourth servings? I mean sure people tend to eat a little more than usual due to the wide selection of entrees, but stuffed to the breaking point with unhealthy food doesn't describe my family.

than actually communicate with other people via technology!

Right, why on Earth would people want to talk to each other, especially when they haven't seen each other in months and during that time new babies have been born, new relationships, new moves, new jobs ect.. when Candy Crush Saga is there waiting on your smartphone! Like who the hell has time for that real life stuff when angry birds and facebook has 10 new notifications waiting!!

Kids these days and their "communication" - It's like like wtf??????!!!!!!????
Yea, you said it. That I agree with, just in an entirely different context than you intended.

*Please do not take my little diatribe personal, I was just having a bit of fun in presenting my viewpoint and your post just happened to perfectly inspire me to expand upon it, no offense intended.*

reply

No offense taken. Again, your post was not very convincing, so no offense could really be be taken.

My point was that watching other people exercise while yourself doing nothing is nothing to be admired. Whether it is a "very long held tradition" or not is immaterial. Can you understand this simple concept?

stuffed to the breaking point with unhealthy food doesn't describe my family.

? No-one said it did. Did you actually read my response?

Uh, again, you failed to read (or comprehend) what was written. YOU suggested passively watching mindless sports was better than communication. Communication via technology is still communication. I am arguing in favor of communication (via technology or in person) NOT communicating and hypocritically watching mindless sports.

Yes.
