OT: holiday house fires
Has anyone ever had a bad fire in their town right around or even on Christmas?
4 years ago on Christmas eve morning just minutes from my house a crazed gunman set his house on fire killing his sister inside and fatally shot 2 firemen and injured 2 policemen before turning the gun on himself. It was truly awful. One of the firemen was a father of 2 young children. The fire spread to a couple other neighboring houses but they've rebuilt. On the site of the house that burned down is a nice memorial dedicated to the 2 men who lost their lives. They arrested the woman who sold that guy the gun. I don't know the whole story but she had to testify in court.
On Christmas eve this year part of our town's DPW building caught on fire and most of the vehicles (plows, salt trucks) were destroyed. But the way the building was built really only confined the brunt of the fire to one section which was a total loss. We had just gotten home from visiting relatives and my dad heard the sirens as its only a few minutes away. I didn't know about it until I woke up the next morning. I drove by it today and yeah that was a bad fire. Our towns new library is right next to it but luckily the fire did not affect it.
