As a ballet dancer....
...it REALLY bugs me that someone who doesn't even know the positions of the feet (one of the first things you learn) or even how to tie her shoes (shouldn't be doing pointe if you don't even know that- you can hurt yourself) by then end of the movie gets a solo. Especially a solo that doesn't even follow the correct movements for the piece. (Ballets are like plays; there are certain "lines" [movements] you follow for the music.)
I get that it's a "follow your dreams" story and it's supposed to be like "she has a natural flair that makes up for her lack of knowledge) but, NO. Ballet is not one of those things. It takes years of muscle training, learning the movements and positions, and earning your place. You can't just walk into a ballet school, have some talent, and end up with a solo. Not even if you practice hard and really focus. It's just not going to happen.
I know it's a movie, but honestly, ballet is one of the few things that still have a "right" and a "wrong" way to do something. All the movie will make you think is that you can do it your own, unprofessional way. If you want to "express yourself" in your own way, take a different style of dance.
sorry, rant over
