A politically correct mess

This movie was just flat out unbearable at times and was easily the worst "Spider-Man" film to date. It actually made me want Andrew Garfield back, even though I'll always prefer Tobey Maguire.

The "Penis Parker" jokes were overdone. Moreover, Zendaya's character's comments about "getting in some protesting" and how she refused to join her class inside the Washington Monument because it was "built by slaves" was a load of nonsense.

If this is how the Spider-Man franchise will be going forward, then count me out.

Actually... That was sooooo typical for teens. I had at least three "Zendayas" in my year alone. And leave it to teens to overuse a "clever" nickname.

And I was teen in the 90's.

Well now, for a NY City high school that composition or students and their ethnic backgrounds was likely correct. The only real problem I had was M.J. not being a redheaded white girl. Nothing against this Zendaya person (never heard of her before this movie) but she's no Mary Jane Watson. I didn't have a problem with her acting, except for the stupid comment about the Washington Monument. Was that really necessary? Of course not. Luckily, her character was viewed as a "roll-your-eyes" type of misfit because of those comments.

No, I tend to agree with your synopsis. I am tired of the politics of progressivism (or any politics for that matter) being slid into one of my favorite character's movies.

For the record, I loved the Sam Rami movies as well, save for SM 3. It was not great, just OK but fundamentally flawed. SM:Homecoming is a vast improvement on the AMAZING SM movies, which I didn't really care about.

I try to just "tune out" that nonsense and hopefully Marvel/Disney will realize that political statements have no place in movies that should soley be an entertainment medium.

The thing is that in todays world, politics is everywhere. In real life I mean. You can't escape it. And what's the point of making modern updates if you're not keeping with the times?

Well I respectfully disagree that you can't make something fun in today's cultural environment that doesn't include a political slant. They can still make movies that all can enjoy without stirring up the red-blue divide.
