I thought this would be about a "fixer" for athletes and movie stars

And while that's his job description, we never ever ever see this since like season 1.

Total nonsense. I've never cared less about two characters than bunch and Terry.

reply

You mean athletes like Hector Campos? lol

reply

If you want a case-of-the-week show, go watch CSI, Numbnuts.

reply

You are another one who does not let other people have an opinion different from his. ... and lashes out in puerile insulting ways.

reply

You are correct. I was just being a punk. But seriously, in response to the OP, Ray does solve many "fixer" problems week to week, but it is incorporated into a larger story line, which allows for character growth and a linear storyline. It is my "opinion", that, that is a classier way to tell a case to case fixer story than an actual case of a the week trash like CSI.

reply

I agree with you quangjle. The story really had deteriorated into absurdity.

reply

It began that way, and as the seasons progressed it was feminized, turning into a dysfunctional family soap opera. Every time something with Ray's horrible family intruded -- Abbey, Bunchy, Mr. Shakes, the daughter, Connor -- it tanked. I exclude Jon Voight from this since a lot of what he did added drama to show, and he is a world class Oscar winning actor, always good when on camera. Even when he is compelled to go down on some old hag. ("Let the good times roll!")

reply

"Feminized?" As an insult? Screw you. Also, i don't know any women who like sh*tty family soap operas. It's not the 50s anymore. GTFO with that crap.

reply

Hey pal, settle down, you're not on a tea party board. Tea baggers like yourself have no place in civilized society. The next dogsled for Wasilla is leaving in an hour, make sure you're all-aboard. Give my regards to Sarah Palin.

reply

Actually, the one who sounded like a right winger was you with your original post about the show not being "manly" like it used to

If I don't reply, you're probably on my ignore list for something I forgot already

reply

If you read the initial description of the show, it specifically states that Ray can fix other people's problems but those of his own family. His family is instrumental to the image of the whole show. And I get that sometimes it may all be annoying but that's the show and it looked like Ray's upping his antè in 4:10.

reply

He's been fixing *beep* for people. And *beep* *beep* up for people and then fixing it so it helps someone else.

reply

They definitely should back the car outta this one-way street and get back to the fixing stuff.

I get the idea of Ray having family conflict, but too many of these plots have little to do with Ray at all. This isn't supposed to be an ensemble cast. It isn't called "Ray's Family". Its called "Ray Donovan".

We already know enough about Mickey, Bunch and Terry. We know about the church stuff, the Boston Irish stuff. That took the first half of the first season.

Considering that Ray is somewhat based on:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthony_Pellicano

I think we could get at least a few more plots that are at least in his core job description...

reply

I don't want a procedural with a different case every week. Maybe you should watch Scandal for that.

Ray Donovan going back to the first two seasons and concentrating on, you know, actually doing his interesting job (with some small bits about his crazy family) is hardly a crap serial.

Its now 75% crazy family (and extension of crazy family, i.e., pregnancy) and 25% rather uninteresting jobs.

Until he "fixes" Marisol fully and completely (c'mon, give her a hot load or fake a suicide, how hard can be be for a guy who can get a uniformed cop legally drunk then smash his car into a wall?) its like something circling a toilet.

reply

My thoughts exactly. Why doesn't it get back to showing more of what Ray does? Fix stuff for the Hollywood elite? Those episodes were way more interesting. it has gotten completely away from the fundamental premise of the show and into insane, completely unrealistic plotlines. I don't care about any of them now.

the kids and wife are the most annoying characters in television history and bunchy's wife is a zombie now? does that really happen?

Totally agree. I've been saying this for...years!
