Sorry but this past episode or two has been COMPLETELY implausible

Nobody in their right mind, if they were Raymond, would continue to go meet with the Russians.

The Russians, for their part, would have no compunction about killing him outright and worrying about the art later. Art is insured, after all. Even if it wasn't insured, they would still kill him and take the monetary loss. They could always make it up later.

They would either kill him outright or torture him and/or his family to find out where the art was, and then kill them all.

Also, Ray keeps going back to his house and place of work like no big deal. The Russians would have already killed and/or kidnapped all of his friends and family. The house and Fite Club would not be safe for anyone to go to.

The bottom line is this: in real life Ray would have to take all of his family and friends and disappear permanently from LA. There is just no other way to survive. All of this is completely implausible crap.

This is getting to be a bit much to swallow.

That's kinda why it's called dramatic entertainment. If it were real life, it would be called a documentary and few people would care to watch it. From what I understand life in Witsec or in hiding is pretty darn boring.

Though, now that I think about it, some of those program on the Investigation Discovery channel are pretty entertaining.

Truth is stranger than fiction because fiction has to strain to remain plausible. Ray Donovan has blown plausibility out the window. You know a series is running on empty when otherwise smart people start acting like idiots. When Ray started he was a tough guy Mr. Fixit for all the big shot sleaze bags in Hollywood and its environs. You could always count on Ray to take care of business, do whatever was necessary. Over the seasons his awful family intruded more and more into the show, it became soap opera. Most of the problems Ray had to unravel had to do with his family. Ray is supposed to be a smart guy yet he puts up with his horrible wife, his rotten daughter, his son who thinks he's billy the kid, brothers Bunchie and Mr shakes who make up two thirds of the three stooges, Jon Voight (a genuinely extraordinary actor, Oscar winner), getting involved in one endless scheme after another. Ray would be better off if he locked everyone in the house, torched it, and collected the insurance and start over, on another network.

reply

Er....they haven't intruded. That's the actual premise of the show.

Ray Donovan, a professional "fixer" for the rich and famous in LA, can make anyone's problems disappear except those created by his own family.

Having said that, they probably are getting a bit desperate when just about every character has committed murder.

Actually, its "truth is stranger than fiction. Fiction has to make sense".

I think the writers wrote themselves into a corner bringing in the Armenian and Russian mobs. They probably saw an easy way to bring in lots of exciting guns and bang-bang, but have now figured out there is no easy way to end this so they (and we) are stuck going around and around in a never-ending circle.

I think you're right--the writers/producers have paintrd themselves into a corner. I'm enjoying the season, but it was a lot more plausible in the first 2 seasons. And for me, plausibility is something I need to totally enjoy a show or a movie.

reply

Yes, everyone knows the Russians and Armenians Just. Won't. Give. Up. Losing is unthinkable, so they will just keep sending more and more goons after their target (and I say this as a first-gen Russian American). And there is only one Ray, which is why this show is starting to resemble some one-man-against-the-world action movie. The baby writers must have grown up on Die Hard and RoboCop.

reply

This.

The moment they put Ray in direct contact with the mobs the show was doomed to become a joke. If Ray were a single man maybe it could work on some level but he has his whole family tree surrounding him. You cant blackmail on that level with that to worry about.

reply

I think this season is brilliant. It's getting very dark, too, but the quality is still high. More and more I feel sorry for Ray, he's getting sucked down by all the sleazy people he deals with...

reply

Remember, the art was smuggled in.

"What would you like to see on your honeymoon, Mrs. Cord?"
"Lots of lovely ceilings."

reply

You entire premise is built around the art being insured.

Talk about implausible. Your entire post is implausible.
