No one ever says bye on the phone

not one single time in the history of this show. Sad!

reply

Haha, it's true! Drives me nuts, especially ray, he just hangs up, and I'm like, he didn't even say goodbye! 

reply

True. But I think that's pretty much the norm on most tv shows and for most movies.

reply

I think you're spot on, most shows people just hang up without a goodbye. Have you also noticed how long people can look at each other while driving, people have really long conversations without looking where they're going, then when they arrive they get out of their cars and they don't lock them! I'll stop now! BYE!!

reply

Half the time no one says hello either. The person at the other end of the phone just seems to start talking to whever answers. Must be a Hollywood thing.

reply

Ha I noticed that too! I think it makes it easier for editing purposes though. But it is weird not to hear it and very noticeable. I mebtion it every time I see it in a show or movie. Drives my husband nuts lol

They shave seconds off everything to make room for commercials. For years I have watched people open a gift by lifting a lid of a box. It usually has a ribbon attached to the top but not tied. Wrapping paper would slow things down.

I used to watch situation comedies where the next door neighbor's wife would open the kitchen door and just push right in. The husband was never unshaven and eating cereal in his boxers.

In the real world, sometimes things are pressing, also it adds to the suspense. So that's the beef with this show? They don't say hello or goodbye? My God, are we getting that politically correct and soft...help us all.

reply

Everyday Manners are labeled as politically correct? I guess next it will acceptable to point at food at the supper table and just grunt.

"how did I like the meal? Well, I ate it, didn't I"

Well, this is not every day. This is a TV show. This is how these people talk on the phone, usually because some crazy shiz is happening. It isn't real life chicago85

Bye is overrated.

I just finished binge-watching the entire series and this drove me nuts! I know the characters are supposed to be disconnected and troubled or whatever but, dammit! Not hearing "bye" just once drove me crazy. Not...once.

reply

True! How can you be sure the conversation is indeed over?

If I did that to my friends or family they would call me back and be like "Did you hang up on me and why?"

True, and not only this show. It's some kind of weird Hollywood tradition. God knows why, because virtually no one IRL does this. As if the millisecond it'd take onscreen to say goodbye or bye, or anything, would matter.

I'm currently watching a show where one character pops pills like crazy, yet almost never without any water. Not quite as bad, as some people do this, but not many. Nothing like unnecessarily getting a pill stuck in your throat.
