Obviously the details on the content advisory page are pure rubbish, as a show with that level of violence can't be a 12 (which this is). So what is it really like?

That describes it.
It's pretty violent, actually. I didn't mind it, but it was too much for my mother -- who finally quit watching because she couldn't take it any more (in fairness, she simply doesn't like violence).
In comparison to The Passion of the Christ, it's tame -- a PG14 rating, at most, but it IS surprisingly brutal.
