First of all I'm sure if the biblical Jesus was around today, abortion would be way down on his list of things to worry about.

Also you can't be sure what his view on it would be. The idea of a divine spark, of an embryo having a soul from conception, was considered heretical by the early Christian church, long before abortion became possible, infanticide being the preferred post coital method of birth control back then.

As far as Jesus being a socialist, his ideology certainly checks a lot of boxes, especially concerning wealth and property and his championing of the poor oppressed masses. His ideology would fit well with Marx's definition of primitive communism.

No, it wouldn't.

"Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations." - Jeremiah 1:5

"You shall not murder." - Exodus 20:13

The completely non-Biblical actions of an early 'Christian' church are irrelevant to how Jesus feels about an issue.

Jesus never approved of over-taxation by the gov. so they can redistribute what people earn against their will.

He promoted generosity and charity, not a philosophy that's essentially gov. theft and catering to the lazy.

This verse has nothing to do with abortion. It is referring to God choosing Jeremiah to be his prophet. (before you were born I set you apart)

"You shall not murder." - Exodus 20:13

How many so-called Christians are against the death penalty? It should be 100% considering one of the ten commandments is to not kill. Unfortunately many Christians favor the death penalty.

How does Jesus feel about the issue? Does he say plainly and unequivocally, "do not commit abortions"? The fact that he doesn't make any mention of abortion probably means he's not really thinking too much about it.

I don't know if the bible has any verses where Jesus gets all politicially scientific. Jesus did say that rich people most likely won't get into heaven. That sounds like he would probably be more in favor of socialist policies. Which means he would tax rich people more.
I do agree that Jesus wouldn't want the gov. stealing the common man's money and using it to bail out those lazy bankers, CEOs, and Wall St. crooks for their greedy incompetent behavior.

I know you are trolling and I am not biting, but I will say that to attach Jesus to any relatively modern political philosophy and label is laughably ignorant. Jesus wasn't any of what we like to politically identify him as. These ideas didn't exist back than.
Let's make one thing perfectly clear Bernard, Sir Humphrey is not god!"

To believe a fictional book written thousands of years ago and apply it to our world today is laughably ignorant........

I was more making a satirical statement on how irrational and foolish republicans sound when arguing or unknowingly contradicting themselves with unrelated information. To me, this sums up nearly everything said by many republicans today. Not the great republicans of the past that promoted racism and classicist societies, drafted blacks and the poor for population control, promoted freedom but investing more in prisons and military. And of course invaded so many countries forcing them to follow our political ideals, and if they refused we will exterminate them one by one, or all at once! Don't you dare infringe on our freedom to control the world........... All hail to the fourth reich.

Jesus loves you anyway, whether you like it or not.

Your post would be relevant if it weren't full of so many worn out talking points.

There is so much wrong with this that I don't even know where to begin. I just try to resign myself to the fact that there are far too many uninformed or just plain stupid people in the world for me to ever even come close to correcting you all.

The age of the book doesn't matter. Do you disregard the writings of Flavious Josephus, Eusibius, Aristotle, Plato, Claudius, or Plutarch

reply

I know he was trolling but there are actually people that claim Jesus would have been a socialist or had socialist tendencies yet they would do the same thing as he did and discredit belief in the Bible. They contradict themselves at every turn.

Jesus is a socialist only when convenient but the book he is in is made up of fairy tales and stories, the logical conclusion would than have to be that even though Jesus was a socialist it is all nill and void because the book is fiction and not meant to be taken seriously.

And they call us hypocrites because of the Crusades which was Roman Catholic thing not a God thing. we eat bacon and shellfish, and we don't stone our children.

Truth is they have no understanding of the Bible because if they did they would realize that their OT based accusations dont work because of what Christ did and they would see that Christ NEVER preached tolerance but love.

I have heard these arguments for years and there is no logic to them whatsoever.

Let's make one thing perfectly clear Bernard, Sir Humphrey is not god!"

reply

"Jesus never preached tolerance"????!!!! Are you serious. How the hell else do you interpret "let he who is without sin cast the first stone"? One thing that is unquestionably the case is that Jesus would never recognise right wing conservative Republican voting "christians" as Christians. The problem with that kind of "Christian" is they privilege the supernatural elements of the Bible (commitment to literal interpretations of the creation story, etcetera) over simply heeding the teachings of the man himself, which are utterly unreconcilable with a right wing world view.

I'm not going to get into the tolerance/love debate, however I will say that this line is not about tolerance, it's (IMO) Jesus putting the religious leaders of the day into their place. He didn't say to the woman 'tis cool - go about your life' he said 'go and sin no more'. He wasn't tolerant of her sin, he was saying to the religious leaders "You're not going to trap me into condemning this woman... who, by the way, you probably set up since you didn't bring the GUY in who was caught in adultery... I'm going to point out that you lot are all sinners, so if I start by condeming her to stoning, we'll finish with you guys. Is that ok? Oh, you've all drifted away have you? Hey, come back, I haven't finished talking to you yet..."

Now, I've put a LOT of words into JC's mouth there, but I believe that is what he was talking about - NOT tolerance.

Jesus has the final authority over the world and its people, Skinhead. The Bible is not fictional in the least. It is fact. Even the biggest atheist scientists agree that Jesus Christ was an excellent teacher. And as for your "fourth Reich", he'll be joining Adolf Hitler in hell.

Jesus was not a liberal OR a conservative. He was not involved in politics, but in saving souls.

YES... scholars question the accuracy of all ancient authors and recognise the possibility of errors in copying and translation. The point is that no one sees the work of Cicero as being the word of god- and no one goes to hell for all eternity if they question his ideas; also no one would benefit from a purposeful altering of the original text.

The bible is full of blatant contradictions- the day of the crucifiction differs in the gospels.

Abraham left Ur of the 'Chaldeans'... unlikely if the date of departure was 1870 BCE!

... ... on and on it goes!

Lol yes:). I'm going to school to be a pastor I tell every conservative there. Jesus was the first liberal cuz it's true :).
