I think they were trying to market it toward young adults but the problem is that the story and characters needed more mature actors.

i like him as an actor, but he felt really poorly cast in this. he's pretty hit-or-miss in his movies but he's great when cast and directed well. honestly, the two leads in this felt like brother and sister.
