The synopsis of this movie sounds a lot like Doctor Who

Doctor Who is about a guy who travels through time and space with one or more companions.

Going with such abstract comparisons as the one you make, every story can be made to sound like every other story.

Valerian is based on a french comic series running from 1967 to present time. I know the original Dr. Who is a couple of years older than that, but still. They have very little in common.

Valerian has much more in common with Star Wars, and that meaning that Star Wars was heavily inspired by Valerian.

Here's a few examples:

Yep, you are absolutely right. The Dr Who comparison is simply idiotic, Valerian is a lot more complex. And Mezieres should have sued Lucas for stealing half the ideas from his books.

I just read a longer synopsis for the movie's story. Funny thing is they choose a comic from the series that is not about time travel. Too bad, I would have preferred the first one (La cité des eaux mouvantes).

Time travel seldom works in movies, and if so is so convoluted that it becomes the main part of the movie. I prefer a visually drenched alien fest chock-full of trippy ideas. Then again "L'ambassadeur des ombres" was my favorite album in the series.

Actually, it sounds a lot like Revenge of the Killer Tomatoes. It's about a guy and girl and they do stuff.

RIPOFF!

If you buy a ticket for a remake, you are the problem, not Hollywood.

reply

Maybe it does, for someone who have never read the comic. But the comic's universe is large and complex, and not something that can be summed up in a single sentence.
