...was he supposed to be sexy? Their whole sexual relationship was really hard for me to buy. It would have been more believable if they cast a younger, better-looking guy for the role. It just came off as really sleazy. She leaves her handsome, caring boyfriend at college and comes home all excited to jump into bed with this 40-something dude. But, that was part of her character I guess.
shareYes it was like that in the book. The cop was a 40-something and head kids and ex-wifes. Nothing special. If you red the book you see that she realises that he is a piece of sh*t actually. He has a lot of girls like her even younger ones.

shareMaybe she chose to sleep with him because he was a masculine figure which she didn't find with Phil or her dad - like that scene when she mentions she likes him because he is so manly. Also, you could see it as a kind of self destructive behavior, like her cigarette smoking, that she began to try to fill the void created by the disappearance of her mother.
