I think the OP was referring to the small age gap, but regardless, I agree with you. Shailene is cute at best. Something about her face annoys me. And Eva Green is gorgeous. I remember seeing her in the James Bond movie back in 2006 and I was blown away by her natural beauty.

In Byzantium, Gemma Arterton (born 86) is playing the mother of Saoirse Ronan (born 94). I think there is no problem despite a 8 years gap only. Ok this a movie about vampires but still...
With the right make up, costums, effects...there will be no problem with Eva Green (born 80) playing the role of Shailene Woodley's mom (born 91).
Also the story may include the fact (like in Byzantium) that Eva Green's character was pregnant at 15 years old or so...Thus, it's not impossible that her character will look around 35 years old and Shailene Woodley's character around 20 years old. It's a 15 year gap when the real gap is 11...not a shocker.
The weirder part is that Christopher Meloni is playing the dad and he's much old enough to be Shailene Woodley's dad, except that he's about 19 years Eva Green's senior, which would make it look as though a teenager got pregnant with a grown man.

This film is dealing with complex family issues, the writing has to be top notch. If the film is dealing with schizophrenia, Eva could pull it off spectacularly IF the screenplay supports her. This should not be just another Shailene Woodley vehicle.
Let's hope the film-makers don't screw it up.

She gives birth to child (who eventually becomes Ronan's character) becomes a vampire and later when her daughter is in her teens, turns her into a vampire as well. It makes sense that she only looks about ten years older than her daughter because she stopped aging around then. And its a plot point that Arterton's character doesn't look old enough to be Ronan's mother. They pose as sisters instead.
I think it's an entirely different situation to have only a twelve year age gap between a mother and daughter when there's not supposed be anything supernatural going on. And Green's character's age is stated (she says something like, "Not bad looking for 42," in reference to herself). So, Green is playing older, I just don't think she particularly looks 42.

She was supposed to be 42 in the film, that's why. Remember the scene where she came down the stairs drunk in a dress and said "not bad for a 42 year old woman huh?"
Eva was supposed to be playing a 42 year old, her father probably was supposed to be around the same age. Eva is such a good actress she pulled it off. That's the cool thing about good actresses. They can play all different kinds of roles and ages. Eva wanted the role clearly, as her character was the most interesting character of the entire film. I don't think she cared about the age of the role she was playing, but the character itself.

Eva is really gorgeous. I think they intentionally made her look older with the hair and clothes to play her "mother". She did a great job though. She really did come off older than she was. She is only 11 years older than Woodley! LMAO

Funny because even though Shailene is pretty, every time they were in a scene together my eyes kept looking at Eva. She just has such a unique, elegant European look.
