How do you think Beth, Cosima, Katia became 'self-aware'? Who was first?

I don't think the show explained how Cosima and Beth became self-aware but we do know they were one of the first. As Beth found Allison doing facial recognition. Katia came to Beth about clones being killed in Europe. But how did Katia know she was a clone? I imagine Cosima found out experimenting with her own DNA maybe? But that's a stretch.

What do you think?

I'm not including Rachel because we know she was raised self-aware.

I'm pretty sure Katya told Beth and Beth told Cosima.

Hmmm...I don't know how far you are along. There is a character introduced in both season four and the comics named Veera/MK/Mika. In the comics, I believe Katja and Veera meet, along with others. That might have been the source of the self-awareness. Also, I'll remind you it was Sarah who brought the monitor program to the attention of Cosima and Alison.

I have seen all of the seasons. I remember Katja coming to Beth. I guess that would be how Beth found Cosima and Allison. I remember in season one it was mentioned that Beth used facial recognition to find those in North America. I did not know there were comics. I do know about MK who was a survivor of Helsinki and she met with Beth and she had a clone sister from Europe named Nikki (who was a Helsinki victim). So you think that MK and Katja met and probably came up with that 'just one of a few, no family, too' thing?

Maybe. Mika is a recluse. I don't think Veera and Katja had a conversation...mostly Veera talked with Nikki. But the whole Helsinki crowd was in the same room at the same time, plus Katja IIRC. I remember being particularly surprised that Katja was there, because I had no heads-up about that.
