Thanks, HBO Free Weekend!

I lean toward docs and indies so Vince & Owen aren't my poster boys. But coming straight on the heels of "The Lovely Bones," this was delightful. After two-plus hours of murdered child lingering in Peter Jackson's artsy cinematic version of purgatory, with heartbreak for all and justice for none, I could really appreciate this little romp for what it was.

Who doesn't enjoy seeing the underdog come out on top? And this movie had 'em all--old, fat, nerdy, egghead, stripper, antisocial, non-conformist, non-athletic, lack of self-esteem, fear of failure, you name it. The only thing missing was a homely girl turning into the campus beauty, although that one kid got an eyebrow, so that may have been covered.

The little team of losers no one else wanted beat the odds and won the prize, through tenacity and character development, with some clever bits along the way. Ultimately quite satisfying.

For maximum entertainment value, pair with "The Lovely Bones."
