SPOILER --- The Bet

I know it's a movie but why would he bet the half million all on 1 hand? He got the 500,000 by playing the whole table. So if that's what he was doing so well at why not stick to it? Not like he was in a rush. Seen this so many times in movies. A guy gambling for hours and building a stack to then take it all and bet it on 1 hand or number. Someone that has never seen money like that would never do that. No one would ever hit 19 either but then again he only was betting 5 bucks then so maybe someone would for the hell of it. I have seen people hit 17 before a couple times but still a horrible odds bet. with 525,000 on the line I think I would play the odds and not take a card. That's movies though, lol.

I believe he went to a different table with a higher limit and wanted to go all in. There are many things wrong with this movie though...

reply

I think it was the same table, just that his friend the girl was back on shift dealing.

As for why he did what he did, he said he was a compulsive. Compulsive gambler is what I take that to mean. So IMO he was basically looking to lose.

reply

It looked like they took him to another room with one table for higher bets. He was at the table but the people were watching from outside the curtains to the room entrance.

reply

He didn't went all in. Which was why he had chips for his last bet. It was just the editing didn't convey "time had passed as he kept losing" very well.

reply

Unfortunately, this movie ran out of money before a decent plot was purchased.

reply

He became greedy. He realized he needed "millions" if he wanted to live carelessly for the rest of his life.
So even if he'd won that one hand he would have continued and probably would have bet a million on the next hand. He was a pathological gambler, as he admitted himself.

reply

He was a gambling addict no money would of ever been enough, he was on such a winning streak he thought hey why am i cashing in when i can easily double my money? But in the end like all casinos they always win back.

reply

He was a compulsive gambler and basically a loser.
When he is talking to Baby and Baby is talking to him about him being the talk of the town for being up $500k the night before he also recounts a story of when Nick was up $200k right there at the Golden Nugget right before he lost it all. Also when he is speaking to Cyrus in the diner and Cyrus tells him he needs to admit what he is he says that he's compulsive and even if he had won the million he would have found another excuse to bet that too.

reply

Someone that has never seen money like that would never do that.
Know that for a fact, do you?

reply

Because he's a gambling addict. It wouldn't matter how much he won, he'd keep trying to win by betting more. In the end the house always wins.

In real life he'd probably lose it all in bits and pieces but that's less dramatic and who wants to watch a 10 minute sequence of him losing hand after hand?
