Did it feel a little empty to you?

I felt like there was no climax. It was an okay movie though.

You're right. The script was meandering without any sort of direction for the most part. The climax was, for lack of a better term, anti-climactic. This was clearly not Statham's fault. His performance and those of his supporting folks buoyed an otherwise lame picture. It was passable entertainment for a couple of hours on a lazy afternoon. ANd yes, it was slightly better than the Reynolds movie.

I liked the climax in the Reynolds version better, TBH. I liked that Nick was wounded and managed to scare the guy so much with his threats that Danny showed his true cowardly colors and killed himself. I also missed the relationship between Cyrus and Nick from the Reynolds version. It was easier to see how Cyrus endeared himself to Nick and the scenes of macho bonding/training/instruction were entertaining. Those scenes were sorely missed in this version. Having said all that, Statham was obviously more believable as a man of action and the fights were definitely better. If one could have melded both movies into one it would have been great.

I feel the toupee thing was a swipe at Burt. He coulda taken it off and choked bad guys with that tribble.

My bad. I forgot about the toupee bit being in the Reynolds film. That seems awfully ironic. However, I shudder to think of what Altman would do with it. As a writer, I'm not a big fan of megalomaniacal directors who throw away the words and tell the cast to wing it, essentially. Nine times out of ten the result is poop. Plus, you can't really "see where it takes you" in an action picture. None of that matters though because can't imagine a director telling Jason to improv, as much as I love the guy. He seems more workmanlike.

Acting was surprisingly good, even down to the cocktail waitress who only had 1min screen time.

The movie was even good in bits and pieces, but just didn't hold together nicely

Yep I agree with you OP...this movie was a big let down...its not a good drama, or action or thriller or anything...it doesnt even know what it wanna be and a bad joke of a director like Simon West cant pull of a movie like this...he just let it spread in every *beep* direction...and ofc it had no climax or not anything at all...it was just plain stupid and boring, not even a good villian...only good thing was Cory Yuens fighting Choreography.
