That would be the most logical answer if this movie wasn't 'word for word' the remake of Heat with Burt Reynolds. The roles are the roles.

Perhaps she was in Vegas for some reason, ran into the crew, knew the director, and did him a favor. Still strange however, because that part was really even short of 'cameo'.
