Watch Wind River Instead....
I'm not the type who usually holds a grudge against a movie, but Hunter Hunter is one of those rare films that left me frustrated for days -- nay, weeks on end due to the way it mistreated its own characters and the excellent first-half of the film that set up the storyline so wonderfully.
Without griping about what went wrong with Hunter Hunter (or more like how the writer/director betrayed his own film to push a stupid message) I will instead simply suggest that if you want a movie about the great outdoors, some malice being afoot, some mystery, some thrills, and some decent hunting sequences in a slow-burn plot, then check out Wind River instead.
Both movies are very similar in some ways and cover similar topic matter, but Hunter Hunter is frustrating even to think about.
The downside to Wind River in comparison to Hunter Hunter, is that the hunting tactics and attention to detail aren't quite as prominent in Wind River as they are in Hunter Hunter, but it's still an excellent film. The major difference is that Wind River doesn't magically make all its characters consume stupid juice half-way through and then introduce groan-inducing scenarios that play out in an incredibly ignorant fashion.
Another major difference between the two s that one will leave you feeling somewhat satisfied while the other will leave you with a bitter taste in your mouth and a lot of unanswered questions.
So yeah, don't frustrate yourself with a movie that decided to scuttle its own quality for the sake of agenda-pushing. Stick with a film that stays true to its characters and world-building; stick with Wind River.
