Poor Ryan Leaf

The poor bastard will never live down his NFL failure, the poster boy for the college great that goes bust in the pros. I wonder what he would've thought watching this movie and seeing himself mentioned.

Do I take Callahan?

He's a winner.

He is. I mean, that's the word, right? He's won everywhere he's been?

They said the same thing about Ryan Leaf. And he was the number two pick in '98. No one said that about Tom Brady when he went 199th. There's no such thing as a sure thing.

If it were me, I would be content with the fact that Jennifer Garner uttered my name.

The grave is no bar to my call.

I still laugh everytime I hear his name. It was hilarious when my old roommate called him a "little beach (of course, I mean the expletive)" when our football team played against him and our rivals WTAMU.

I'm with you. Can you imagine walking in his shoes for a day? He was probably a *beep* to more than a few people during his pre-draft days, but he was a dumb, entitled kid then. Now he has to live with the stigma for the rest of his life. I'd move to another country if I was him. People need to have some empathy.

reply

lol, I never thought about how that would seem to Ryan Leaf until I read your post. It is kind of sad. But hey, he chose to play the game, and I am sure he made a lot of money doing it. That's the thing, even if you are a "failure" in the league, you still make a ton of money in a short period of time.

reply

Poor Ryan Leaf? He was an a-hole, he deserved to fail.

reply

Thing is they didn't say that Ryan Leaf was a winner during that draft. Washington State and Leaf weren't winners.

At the time pretty much everyone was sure that Peyton Manning would be a slam dunk franchise QB. Leaf was just a big kid with a cannon arm but most people weren't sure he would be a sure fire franchise QB.

There's a little revisionist history going on in saying that people thought that Leaf would be better than or anywhere close to Manning.

reply

Actually at the time it was a tossup between Leaf and Manning. Even the Colts entertained the thought of drafting Leaf.

Same with Tony Mandarich. Every team wanted him (besides Dallas which took Troy Aikman at #1). He turned out to be a bust but at the time he was the best offensive lineman prospect ever. And they all wanted him on their team

reply

Poor Ryan Leaf my ass. Ryan Leaf's life became the mess it is because he's an *beep* that has made several stupid decisions in his life. If he hadn't been an *beep* he had the skills to be a backup QB,in the NFL at least, something guys can do for ten years, and make a good life for themselves. Problem is he is an *beep* and he screwed himself out of every good opportunity he had.

reply

Yes lots of people thought Ryan leaf will be better than Manning
And Tony when he came back to the Colts
Was pretty good
