Bo Callahan= Johnny Manziel
Top prospect QB who falls in the draft.
shareHe was obviously based on Ryan Leaf. Talented, yet unlikeable jerk.
shareRyan Leaf's draft situation was nothing like this guy.
The whole Leaf v Manning situation was that it was guaranteed that Leaf would go either number 1 or number 2. It was up to the Colts to decide which person they wanted.
In this movie, once the Browns pass on Callahan he drops several picks as other teams continue to pass on him. That obviously never happened to Leaf in real life.
The Manziel comparison is more accurate, if not more extreme in real life (he dropped into the 20's before he was picked, not number 6).
More like what happened to Brady Quinn.
shareWas Brian Drew supposed to be Brian Hoyer? They said Drew was 4-1 last year and after he got hurt and missed the rest of the season they went to 5-11. Well, Hoyer was 3-2 and when he missed the rest of the season, they finished 4-12...hmm. both were incumbent QB's.
Also was Vonte Mack supposed to be based on Buffalo middle linebacker Kalil Mack? (even though Vonte went to OSU?
SPOILER
was the punt returner they trade for in the end supposed to be based on Devin Hester even though we never actually see that character? They just implied that Dennis Puttney had that type of impact.
Absolutely right for Mack the linebacker. Khalil Mack isn't flashy, but does everything you need on defense, he should be a great pick
shareThis was filmed at the 2013 NFL draft before Hoyer had ever stepped on the field for the browns and before anyone had hyped Mack.
shareI think Bryan Drew might be semi based on Drew Brees. Brees was good but not great with San Diego and under appreciated. He needed the right coach and offense to be great. I think in a way it's implied the coach is Sean Payton. He was adamant about keeping him because he knew he would be great in his offense. I'm probably reaching a little on the comparison but it seems a little similar.
shareCould be for the coach and Barry Switzer. As said in the movie, he coached the Cowboys to a Superbowl, or was given a superbowl team only for it to get ran into the ground. Much like Switzer from 94-97.
shareI'm pretty sure Bo Callahan was Andrew Luck in some of the highlights they showed. Callahan played for Wisconsin, so the uniforms were both red and white. Then they cut to Callahan afterward.
shareOr Matt Leinart.
shareExcept Manziel was never considered to be anywhere near as good as the character in the film. Everyone questioned J fball's ability to transfer in the NFL & it was well known he's far from pro ready. They made the character a pro ready, sure thing A. Luck type. I'm not talking about once the draft began & him sliding.

I know and agree. I said basically the same exact thing in my post, replying to the poster who was relating the two (Bo & JM).

No problem. That's what I figured, or I thought that perhaps my post may simply be convoluted and just didn't make sense lol. Half the time, my writings get a bit too wordy and come off as incoherent ramblings. While we're on the subject & speaking with someone who seems to know fball a bit more than most on this particular thread, what are your thoughts on Bortles? Have you seen any of his pregames?

Well I am EXTREMELY pleased that you are impressed by BB! Reason being, I AM A HUGE JAGS FAN haha! Yeah I couldn't agree more! Although, I admittedly don't keep up much with college ball, I did follow the top draft prospects end of season-draft. To add to what you've already said, I did see him perform in all 4 of the preseason games and I have to say, the kid has OVERWHELMINGLY EXCEEDED MY EXPECTATIONS! Boy was it fun to finally see a real QB behind center for a change! Yeah, I think he'll be in by mid-season, although our line is complete rubbish and I think Montana would have trouble playing behind it. That's one of our main reasons for not throwing him in yet. The reason my expectations were exceeded, were mainly due to all the talk about he not being near pro ready and would need a bit of time to learn the schemes, adjust to the pace etc. However, when he got out there, he showed excellent leadership, pocket presence, poise, confidence, and sound decision making. He looked as good as half the vets out there. Of course I'm also taken into account the opponents 2's & 3's he sometimes was playing against, but nevertheless, agreed he's something special! Also, he still had the same shoddy line in front of him & did actually spend a fair amount against the 1's. Yeah, we need to plug in a few holes for sure, but the arrow seems like it can only point up & I am one enthusiastic jags fan! You a Jets or Giants fan?

Hey no problem at all. I enjoyed reading your stories. They're quite interesting and being a jags fan, I haven't nearly as many, nor are my jags stories as entertaining. One of the reasons being the jags are such a young franchise. If you don't mind my asking, what is your age? I'm assuming you're male, solely judging by your passion for fball. Was that sexist? Lol.

And 99. I looked thru your posting history before I asked the question and it looked like you watched a few "chick" shows (sexist again) so I started to think you may be a female (no offense). I wanted to ask because I am a female and thought it would be cool, yet rare, if you were as well. You guys aren't looking too hot this year though (back to fball, strange way to transition I know). If I am correct, you guys started 0-2 last season and then went on a 7 game run though, right?

Do you still live in NY? Am I being inappropriate asking these type of Q's in a public arena, or should I PM you these things? I'm not well versed on MB etiquette. I'm originally from NJ but moved when I was very little because my dad was military. However, NJ is where all my family roots are.

My thought was that Bo Callahan was an amalgam of several QBs in past drafts. The scene where Callahan walks out of Radio City Music Hall and has to be coaxed back in by his agent is supposed to be Geno Smith. Him falling down the draft board for no reason apparent to the other league GMs is Brady Quinn and Aaron Rodgers. The idea of drafting a defensive player #1 and passing over a "franchise" QB would be Mario Williams and Vince Young. A QB's playboy-style off the field could be Manziel (who was already being tapped as a high pick while still at A&M during this film's production). Ironically, no QB picked in the top 6 is quite prescient since that happened in the 2013 draft (EJ Manual at #16) while this movie was being filmed .
shareNow Buffalo will have to figure out what they're going to do with Manual.
shareI'm an FSU fan and he was wildy inconsistent in Tallahassee. He would have good games and then at other times he would just brain lock and make really bad throws. I always thought he was too high a pick at #16 and benefitted from a weak QB draft class in 2013.
shareOriginal script had the same names and characters but the team they focused on was the Bills and not the Browns.
You guys are putting too much thought into this.
