The romance and the comedic parts ruined it for me.
There was really no need for that, just make a good and deep movie about the NFL sort of what 'Moneyball' did for baseball (even if that was a true story).

shareThere was a little relationship stuff in Moneyball. But, it may have been, with Kevin Costner no longer able to attract women to a movie on his own like Brad Pitt can, that the romantic elements were, stereotypically, included to ensure women might allow themselves to be taken to the movie by their men. Or maybe it was just that Costner likes arm candy in most of his movies.
shareI actually liked that relationship/comedy stuff thrown into the mix and it wasn't a major part of the plot. I mean face it! There are such things as office romances and people also have a few laughs at work. Big deal! If you take that sort of stuff out, you may as well go and do an NFL "Hoop Dreams" kind of documentary.🐭
shareThe comedy was nice. The romance part was very unnecessary and annoying. Really dragged the movie on longer than it had to be.
shareCompletely agree about the romance. It was an annoying, unnecessary distraction. And as a woman, it grossed me out. I kept hoping we'd get through the film w/no kiss. No luck. Costner is old enough to be Garner's dad and looks like it.
shareAre you joking James? Costner is 60 and Gardner is 43 years old. As if that age gap is a big issue at that time of life. It is also realistic as you'd expect high power executives to have a younger wife. Lighten up.
shareThe romance between Jennifer Garner and Nicholas Colasanto, errr Kevin Costner was a bit creepy but I liked the humor. Ali asking Penn & Sonny if they wanted coffee and each of them saying how they wanted it she says "I'm not getting you idiots anything" was funny AF.

I felt like the romance and the dad's ashes were thrown in to show how others were oblivious of the stress he was under, and also it helped show character development. I felt all the humor was character driven, and certainly there wasn't too much of it.
