Her character here seems more restrained then some of her other ones and in that way less fun. It seems like they are holding the actress back or something and the result adds to some degree of blandness. The mom also is played by an actress who often portrays characters with an edge & she has less fun here.

You intuitively pointed out some of the things that are working against this show and not allowing it to be the fun and whimsical Disney show it could be if the producers let it. It is almost like they want the premise to be taken uber-seriously which is just wrong since it's about a dog that talks and blogs!
I think she's great. Different kind of character for her and she plays it perfectly. Highlight of the show for me.

Saw her on GLC but haven't seen much SWAC. But look at the last time a person basically played a character that was memorable before getting their own show and still being the same character. Its hit or miss, Sam Puckett and Trisha Kirby Bailey and Jessie, But it would be tough to make a character a show that can last even one season.
Nick is trying to give a tough girl character her own show, but even they apparently toned her down and paired her with the girliest girl and from a different show on their network. It might work, But it's a lot to ask of any star let alone someone who is a rising star. Certain characters are good in small doses, other need to have a certain regularness in order to give them options plot wise, rather that have her be Jo, then half of the plots Avery has had don't work..
G. Hannelius played so well in this show she is very funny and a cute kid. It's great to see her own show, i remember seeing parts of her in sonny with a change and other small roles in other disney shows but now she is the main star of this show which is great to see. Dog with a blog has got to be the best disney/family it doesn't feel like a disney show it feels like a normal sitcom show and G. Hannelius is the best disney star and one of my favorite young starlets. I wish her all the best for future roles.
