The blonde hair doesn't go with her skin tone AT ALL. She should go back to her natural brown hair.

I know. She was bratty but endearing in SWAC and GLC. Here's she's just annoying. Granted it's only been one episode.

I always found her annoying. It's her style of "acting". Every time I saw her on Disney Channel, I knew she'd either be the bully or the annoying one.
The blonde hair makes her scary. I can't watch this show. Even the dog is scary with the computer animated eyes.

I dunno - I kinda like the blonde look, but I do think she's better off being evil - I loved her in SWAC. She's like Sierra McCormic and Miranda Cosgrove (during her days with Drake & Josh) - I love how sweet they can be, but they're so awesome and funny when being psychotic, evil and scary.

I'd say it works. She kinda needed to be reset, I doubt the only reason for the dye job was to match the family. since they have Tyler and Chloe in there. They probably wanted to distance her from the angry bratty characters we first saw her play. Its like a fresh start. And I think her being angry would've gotten old fast. It works as a recurring role, but not as a main star. Sam Puckett had to be toned down and paired with a nicer person twice for it to work.
And like Miranda, she is doing a completely opposite role than what we know her from. A great way to build fans. Not to mention they things that win over audiences when actors are young doesn't always work when they get older. Just ask Amanda Bynes.
Most, if not all of Avery's plot's wouldn't work if she was Jo.

The family does not match.
Why is the youngest a red head, and Tyler looks middle eastern, greek , mexican , or some sort of ethnicity and the father is caucasian. I can only assume that Tyler's mom was ethnic.
Avery being a blonde isn't what mismatches the family. It's Tyler and Chloe. And their blood siblings. Not a huge issue and one of them could be adopted. I wouldn't be surprised if this show does an adoption episode and they reveal Tyler or Chloe aren't Bennett's bio kids. While I won't be surprised, but isn't a bad idea.
