Improved

As far as disney comedies go, I say this one gets my vote for most improved. GLC and SIU are nearing the end of their runs so its not much competition, but compared to Jessie, which I think has gotten worse, DWAB, has gotten better as it goes on. Avery is great in the lead, the parents add to the show , and Stan is corny enough to be funny.
Anyone else have thoughts about DWAB?

I honestly agree. For a show with a title "Dog with a Blog", it's much better than it should be.

MovieKid100's mom is a prostitute. One Direction sucks. You're Next failed. What else is new?

It's still my least favorite current Disney Channel show.

Worse than Fish Hooks?

I was actually hoping you didn't mention Fish Hooks. I don't even watch that show. I was mostly referring to live-action though.

I agree with the topic and all of you. I've been talking this show up for a while on other boards like S+C and AF. I love this show. It's a nice warmhearted family show and while I already liked in S1, I think it got even better. Avery doesn't even look the same but in a good way. Chloe is probably the funniest character and she's even funnier, Stan can be corny, but what do you expect, he's a dog. I've always thought he was a bit corny and unfunny too, but it's understandable since 95% of what he says are dog jokes. And they easily have the funniest Disney parents, especially since Finesse Mitchell isn't on Ant Farm anymore. And while I like AF and Jessie, those two shows aren't improving or even maintaining. I can see this getting another season since AF GLC and SIU are ending soon. A&A might be next so that gives this show even more hope.

AF was my favorite but this show is slowly winning me over as my "Top DOG" on Disney. See, corny dog joke, couldn't help it.

Embrace Debate.

Agreed! I never wanted to watch this but like all Disney shows I got somewhat sucked in. But the past few episodes have actually had a lot of heart. I hope it continues.

Completely agree with you! Like you said, just based on the title alone I thought it was going to be a corny waste of time, but my daughter finally insisted I watch an episode and I loved it- actually witty and the parents were funny instead of what is usually the case in kid shows where the adults are usually just moronic props. The kids are all fantastic with good hearts- I don't like shows like Jessie where the children are smug. Austin and Allie started out great, but it seems to be going downhill lately, a lot of contrived "drama" (although I still adore Dez), and Good Luck Charlie has gone a bit downhill too for me- and neither have the warmth of DWAB. This show really has a great cast and is genuinely funny- love watching it with my kiddo!

DWAB definitely wins as most-improved on DC. Jessie is honestly becoming unwatchable for me at this point, Fish Hooks as well. A&A is hanging in there, as well as AF.

I'm not gonna compare any of it to "old-school" Disney as I didn't get to start watching Disney Channel regularly until 2004. We didn't have the channel until we moved ;)

You got what you wanted but you lost what you had.

Yes, Jessie is really at a crossroads for me. I always wAtched it, kinda hoping it would get better, as it seems to have potential. But somehow, it just doesn't come together. I like the Emma character, and at one point I thought Ravi was a good character, but he has gotten annoying as now he seems to scream every line. The nerdy kid thing with him can be funny, but now he has gotten more like Luke, who to me, is the worst character on all disney comedies. Zuri is almost as disrespectful as Luke so add it up and if the writers dont improve, the show may be scratched from my line up

I think DWAB has improved too,the kids are funny as well as Stan too, and Avery's new friend Max is a good addition to the show.

reply

Yeah, I liked the idea of adding a third friend to Avery and Lindsay. Avery and Lindsay was too much like a kid/nerdy version of Cece and Rocky.

One thing I've always liked about this show was the writing for the jokes. I mean, every episode usually produces a solid joke set for any show, let alone a kid's show. The plot writing itself is what holds the show back in my opinion. You can have solid comedic content that still hits a snag due to flimsy writing.

But the show has generally gotten better. If nothing else, the jokes make it worthwhile.

Having now seen half (most?) of season 2 by now, I agree with the assessment of "most improved". At first Stan annoyed me because his lines sounded too much like sassy standup (Stan-Up?) comedy. Fortunately Stan evolved into a dog who imparts life lessons and learns many of his own.

There's a subtle double premise to this show. The children learned to bond and become a loving, close-knit group despite being thrown together by their parents' marriage. But Stan, for the first time in his life, also is learning how to fit in as part of a loving family. (That's why he ran away on that camping trip: Stan and the kids had their first big fight and he didn't understand that this sometimes happens in families who love each other deeply.)

It's clear that Bennett and Ellen are madly in love with each other. I am happy Disney has moved back to the two-parent family shows — Good Luck Charlie, Liv & Maddie and Dog With a Blog — in which both parents are actively involved (on-screen) in their children's lives. I also am glad to see the show presents a take-charge father in Bennett, instead of the sitcom standard Clueless Dad.

Yeah, I know filankey is not a word, but it's gonna catch on.
