Is Tyler really dumb, or just lazy?

In the latest Episode when Stan makes a Video of Himself to tell the World He can talk. Tyler tells Him that Dogs are color blind, a bit of information many People probably don't know. Then shortly after that He says it's the Year 2005, what?! I know Tyler is supposed to be the Academic dunce, but, how could He not know what Year it is, but He did know about Dogs and color blindness?

reply

Um, you misheard what he was trying to get across. Bennett, about a minute earlier after Tyler said the "2005" line, referred the camera/video as a tape, and Tyler referenced Bennett's statement by saying [something along the lines of] "What are we in? 2005?" because nobody really says "tape" for videos and such anymore.

reply

Yes, I did misunderstand what He meant. But, it isn't too far-fetched to believe that, Disney Channel makes Their "Dumb" Characters embeciles one minute, and clever, the next.

reply

It's funny they made a "tape" joke when almost everyone refers to video recording as "filming" — even those cameras (video and still) that record directly to a hard drive or whatever it is they record to these days that isn't tape (video) or film (still).

Yeah, I know filankey is not a word, but it's gonna catch on.

reply

I hear "taping" and "filming" interchangeably with "recording"...all of them frequently, commonly used, even when not technically accurate!

"My Little Throny! I used to wonder what bloodshed could be..."

reply

Well he can do math so he is probably just lazy. He seems very lazy

He says in that one episode where Karl almost learns stans secret that he doesn't want anyone to know he is really good at math so the degree to which his dunceness is an act is unclear, but it is at least partly an act.

Speaking of Stan talking when, no one other than the 3 kids are around, I'm surprised that the parents haven't caught him talking, especially when he's in the living room, where they can just walk in.

reply

You are correct of course but it is a comedy and given that the alternative is to have them constantly wispering etc... I am willing to forgive them that bit of silliness, beside if anyone heard an extra voice the fact that it was the Dog talking would be very low down on the list of things they might believe is happening.

Essentially it just plays to the fact that most parents haven't got the slightest clue what their kids are up to right under their noses.

reply

By Disney Channel standards parents are clueless, but if I heard my kids talking to someone whose voice I'm not familiar with, I'd ask them who they were talking to.

reply

They have, and the reply has been one of them pretending to use a different voice. I imagine at some point you just stop asking.
