Great cast, but there's something missing

Despite this expertly assembled cast, Louder Than Bombs never finds a way through the muck of its metaphors. Beauty comes through just often enough to frustrate: there is clearly something here, a powerful treatise on loss and perspective. But that rich material is always buried beneath a chaotic tendency to jump between too many ideas in too constricting of a space. Grief is certainly messy, bet that doesn’t mean its portrait must be as well: http://www.cutprintfilm.com/reviews/louder-than-bombs/

I didn't think it was especially clear in the delivering of its message, but I did like that it tried to generally avoid being overly expository in dialogue, and sidestep hammering home of phony emotion.

I agree. The director had a good cast and a strong script, but the film was ruined by being stretched too thin with so many different angles in the storytelling. It also got confusing at times with all the dream aspects and blurring between fantasy and reality.
